Craig's List 2014 Prospects
Draisatl is a much more complete player. He can skate a lot faster and his production is great considering the talent dal colle plays with in Oshawa Dal colle will be the 5th pick, Unless there is a surprise top pick a la Haydn fleury. I am almost positive the top four players selected will be ekblad draisatl Bennett and Reinhart in no particular order. Dal colle is too one dimensional to beat out those top four players.

Ya I don't see that in Draisaitl at all. Skating never seems to come up as a weakness for Dal Colle so I don't know where you're getting this from.

Dal Colle is a very good skater. He has a good stride which provides him with very good top end speed and excellent acceleration. He has good core strength which gives him excellent balance and makes him hard to knock off the puck. He also has excellent agility which combined with those soft hands and vast array of moves makes him a nightmare for defenders one-on-one.

All of the draft reports have Draisaitl as having skating as a weakpoint and his defence is not a strong point either. Dal Colle may not be as good of a 2 way player right now but he is definetely a better skater.

From the Brian Burke Lunch, he went through the top 10...here is what I got out of it:
Bennett - He loves him Competes, plays all 3 zones, tough, and sticks up for himself. Not afraid to drop the gloves.
Ekblad - I got the sense that if we won the lottery, he would be the pick. Burke said he builds from the line out, and he is a 25min guy. Mature, hard hitting. Said that his knock is that he wouldn't drop the gloves, but Burke said if you are hitting clean, you don't have to.
Reinhart - Tough player, high compete level, watched him tear apart the Hitmen.
Dal Colle - Big guy, skates well, uses his body. Reading between the lines, it sounded like Burke question's his 'compete'.
Draisatl - This is almost exactly what Burke said 'Draisatl is a big guy...I don't like him. lets move on.' Unless he is throwing out a smoke-screen, cross him off your wish list.
Ritchie - Carries about 10 lbs too much, but your prototypical power forward. Will be scoring goals in the pros for years! I am guessing if we land at 5, he will be our pick (based only on what Burke said today).

It would be such a disappointing end to the season to pick Ritchie at 5th overall. He has no business being in the conversation.

So if we had the first overall pick it sounds like we prefer in this order:
Ekblad
Bennett
Reinhart
But in the end Burke has always said he defers to his scouts rankings so they would likely have final say.

Dal Colle >>>>>>>>>>>> Ritchie (exaggeration, but please no..)
Not disappointed on the Draisaitl front, though, was never all that high on him. We're going to have to hope to hell that Ekblad, Bennett, Reinhart, Dal Colle aren't the first 4 to go, though.

There are probably 9 or 10 players I'd take before Ritchie.
And those Burke comments on Draisaitl make me really angry.

Thanks for sharing, I like information like this because it's directly from Burkie himself. Sheds more insight on what we might do.
Don't see too much of it either.

Why do the Draisaitl comments make you angry?
Just curious.
Also Bob McKenzie had Ritchie at 7 so it's not like he would be some ridiculous off the board pick. Taking him at 5 would be too early, but its not like he should be going in the 20's.

Says he doesn't like him but doesn't explain why?
I'm hoping it's just some sort of mind game. The only thing Ritchie does better than Draisaitl is eating cheeseburgers.

He was going off the Central Scouting list that came out this morning...Just going 1 through 10.
One other note, he also said that having the Berra 2nd round pick allowed them an opportunity to move up. Wouldn't be afraid to swap the 5th and 35th to move up, but made it sound like that was REALLY hard to do....

Draisaitl plays the cycle game so it's hard to assess his top speed. The way he keeps his butt to the opposition so they can't get at the puck reminds me a bit of Jagr (no, I'm not saying he's the second coming of Jagr!). I recall Jagr's skating being criticized in his draft year as his only weakness and we know how ridiculous that statement was.
