It's not just a number for a lot of these kids (and adults). Most of the time there are very personal reasons why they wear the number they do. If a kid wants to continue wearing 81 because that was the number his now deceased father wore while growing up, let the damn kid wear 81.

I'm a Burke fan but this is incredibly stupid. It's an identifer. There is nothing that makes 27 less "flashy" than 47. It's just a number.
Go tell Sidney Crosby and Wayne Gretzky that wearing >35 makes them look less classy.
You don't want your players to aspire to be like those players? Get over yourself and your 1950s sense of propriety.

Interesting. This is what I'd like to see on the backs of our future top line:
Sean Monahan #19 (Yzerman, Toews, Thornton, Sakic, et al)
Johnny Gaudreau #7 (Joey Mullen)
Kevin Hayes #10 (Gary Roberts)
Brodie should wear #23 because Paul Reinhart.

Backlund can take number 22 now that was his favorite that would leave 11 open

#11 can then go to Bill Arnold (Stephane Yelle)

If we're gonna be taking a traditional mindset, then bring back the white C and make Red, Yellow, and White the most prominent Flames colours of the uniforms.

I don't mind it. Not a fan of high numbers. They just bug me, have a training camp feel to them.
Never liked Sven's 47 either.

It amuses me how butthurt fans get over this. I'm sure it's a complete non issue for the players.
Guys like Billins, Cundari, Van Brabant, etc. were going to get assigned lower numbers next year (if they made the team) anyways.
I'm just curious to see who gets 19

I think this is a stupid idea.. I too like Burke, but if he tries to implement this, I will not be a fan. You should be able to pick a number over 35.
Wouldn't this create an issue if we ever retired Kiprusoff and Iggy's number? I know we have that Forver A Flame program, but we better not do that to Iggy and Kipper..

I'm fine with this, never liked higher numbers. People making it out to be a bigger deal than it really is.

I figure that if someone has a personal reason to ware the number they want, then they will be able to. In the end, it's just a number. No reason to make a big deal of it if it's of some significance to the player.

Holy anachronism Batman!
Are the Flames just going to produce a set of generic jerseys with numbers 1-35 and the players will fight over who gets what at training camp? If it's good enough for the Blackfoot minor hockey association it's good enough for us!
