Just because it failed for him, doesn't mean it wouldn't work for others?
Maybe i'm opening a can of worms here, and that's not my intent. What I mean is that different people are able respond to treatment and deal with addictions than others.

I think that is crap personally. Why should a team have to keep a guy on the roster just because he screwed up and we should feel bad for him? I think TB was looking at buying him out anyhow.

I guess there are a lot of assumptions with what I'm about to say, but I assume he's a user and it wouldn't be his first time using. In all pro sports with testing there has always been the rumors of these guys knowing in advance about the testing coming, giving enough time to clean up their act. The guy has been playing for years, and assuming again he used before, and wasn't caught, it's indicative of the league's policy that he wasn't caught. While it may not be a "performance enhancer", it's still banned, and by virtue of him being caught with it on him, and the NHL not catching it in his blood through "random" testing, it's a black mark on the NHL.

Does the NHL drug test program even look for recreational drugs or just performance enhancers?

I don't know if they test for recreational drugs or not but my guess would be no. Im not going to drop any names but ive heard some stories about coke use from people who have partied with nhlers. Ņon flames players btw.
A lot of these guys are young, make way too much money, and make stupid decisions.

Certain states it's illegal to fire an employee after he/she has entered a rehab program. Regardless of a Union job or private company. Some situations if the employer has prior knowledge and fire the employee before they are officially enrolled in a substance program it is lawful. Just the opposite as well if the employer fires a employee after they are enrolled is illigal once they begin to heal.

Cocaine leaves the system relatively fast. That is why it is popular amongst people who have to pass drug tests such as pilots.
.112 and a bump, he probably wouldn't even feel a bit drunk so it could be that he really didn't know where his BAC was at.
Either way, pretty bad judgement on his part.

I have also heard this fairly recently actually about a few players who have had connections with the Flames in recent history. I'm not super surprised nor do I really care, as long as it doesn't interfere with their on ice play but I found it interesting how not uncommon it seems.
