10% Tuesday started at IGA and Safeway copied them. Since all the IGAs were turned into Sobeys, do they still do it?

When I worked at Sobeys 10% Tuesday was a big thing so for them.
They definitely won't be stopping that promo.

Also, I wonder what happens to 10% Tuesday. I do all my shopping for the month on 10% Tuesday since it was a significant savings. Is that the next thing to be discontinued?

If I can't pay at the pump and get the discount ill buy my gas at the coop across the street.

Club Sobeys: The worst implemented club card program ever. Want to look up your member number by phone number? Most of the time they'll send you to Cust Service, and you can't even do it on the self-check registers.

Safeway is doing a new pilot program for their gas bars. If you spend $35 in store you get 5 cents off a liter, all the way up to 10 cents off per liter if you spend $210 in store. It runs for just over a month. Then they'll decide if it will be implemented permanently. Previously with the club card you could just scan it. Now you need to bring in your receipt showing the in store purchase to get the fuel discount.
If the program is implemented permanently they will include a bar code at the bottom of each receipt to scan before you fill up

Not only that, it's total crap. It doesn't save you anything except one point per dollar spent. Then it takes until you have 700 points before you get five fricken dollars back. Like every couple of months it asks me if I want to redeem points for $5. Really? I spend hundreds of dollars in your store every month, and you offer me $5?
I don't know who's stupider, the person who thought of that program, or me for carrying a practically useless Sobeys card. The "rewards" are almost an insult. And the only way you accelerate the accumulation of points is to do something annoying like buy two small jars of peanut butter (for a bonus 30 points) instead of one bigger jar. It's just their clever way of getting rid of overstock stuff, and giving the customers practically nothing for helping them out.
It annoys me that Sobeys is by far the most convenient place for me to shop, because if the other options weren't downright annoying, I'd go somewhere else out of spite.

I'm in the same boat. Been shopping there a lot lately out of convenience. I got the card a few years ago, but don't even carry it in my wallet.
A couple of times when asked if I had a club card I literally told them I do, but the program isn't worth it. Then I realized saying that to teenage cashiers likely garners the same inner monologue that I had when I worked a crappy teenager job...
"lol, Alright buddy, I don't give a **** what you think about my place of employment, I'm here for the drinking money, pay for your stupid groceries and get out".
So I stopped.

Safeway Sells Canadian Operations to Sobey's
It's nice to hear I'm not the only one who thinks the Sobey's card is completely useless. Maybe I was just spoiled by years of the Safeway Club Card, since they'd often total your groceries and then swipe the card, and you could watch all the discounts apply in one huge zing of satisfaction.
I remember asking the Sobey's cashier what their card's benefits were, and she gave me a vague non-answer and didn't make eye contact.

The way Safeway jacks up their "regular" prices grinds my gears.
Then offers a discounted price with a larger dollar savings, why not just have regular lower prices?
Take for instance Smartfood white cheddar popcorn, Safeway regular price typically around $4.79.
Other store's regular prices is between $2.99 and $3.99, and when on sale it's either $2.49 or even $2.00 for the same exact bag.
Then it's finally on sale at Safeway is 2 for $8.00 or on the rare occasion $3.49 each.
Continually jacking up the regular price and attempting to trick the masses by offering large savings (compared to your regular over-priced items).
Safeway, This is why you failed.

Why I personally failed Safeway, or "why you failed, Safeway"?
Yes, I'm sure they have a higher mark-up than most of their competitors. To be honest though, I have always found Sobey's almost as expensive.

I agree. Their "regular" prices are usually through the roof. I used to shop at the Superstore (lowest prices) but then with all the media coverage on the rats in their stores I didn't think it was as sanitary as it used to be
Sobeys is pretty expensive as well and although I'm not familiar with their rewards program it sounds pointless
My guess is Sobeys and Co-op could take the crown for highest price on most items

I like the jacked up prices at Safeway. Always good produce left and keeps the poor people away.

Safeway sold the Canadian business for a giant pile of cash. It was a huge success for them.

I miss Safeway from the US.
The Safeway here is a joke and a spitting image of the other national chains, with a few extra selections.
To me this exemplifies a number of US chains that come here and instead of bringing the products and prices that draw us to that US brand, they're just like Superstore and Zeller's.

Why can't we just have a nice grocery store with good pricing? Why in Canada do we have to choose between 3rd world shopping experience & decent pricing vs pleasant shopping experience & jacked prices?

Safeway was invented so white people wouldn't have to shop in the same place as ethnics.
Us ethnic folk know that Superstore is the way to go.

Universal Axiom. You get what you pay for.
I too would like the pods of an Air Canada BusinessFirst for a seat, but I'm too cheap to pay that fare and must settle for Scum Class seating.

Are you suggesting that Safeway provided a pleasant shopping experience? I'd rather shop at Superstore for ambiance than visit a Safeway.
