Well I'm back to being pretty bored with the game. I've hit the wall with my monk where the only way to upgrade is very specific legendary items, but the only drops I get are the same worthless legendary weapons (I've run across the same 2 handed staff 3 times, and one mace 4 times) and very bad set plans that aren't worth the time needed to farm the materials. The one item plan I do have that's worthwhile I've spent hours trying to gather the one material I need with nothing to show for it. So the game has gone back to being a massive grind with no payoff unless you happen to get extremely lucky. And to top it off you can't even help friends advance in the game if you have stuff they need because everything is account bound, which for a game built around co-op is completely ridiculous
Maybe I'll just need to wait for the next expansion and inevitable Loot 3.0 patch to make the game interesting again

I got this chest last night. Pretty happy about it, the 2 piece set bonus will be significant when I get a 2nd piece.
Its too bad there is no 3 set bonus so I could use my ring of grandur on it.

Note that in the most recent hotfix (April 1st)
The chance for a player to earn a Legendary item from Kadala has been significantly increased.

So they say...
So I tried T1 with my Wizard, 5mil toughness, resists all above 1000, and damage is 241k... I feel pretty decent survival wise, sometimes life goes down shockingly fast, but boy is it slow, I assume my damage is just too low? EDIT 35% crit and 97% crit damage. Yeah just too slow.

I ran torment with a group with similar stats and that seemed to work much more efficiently, soloing torment just involves me kiting, which takes forever. But if you can find a group working together, its much quicker. just beat urskala or whatever the fire battering ram guy was with a group.
Found the marauders boots as well. Sweet set bonus where all the companions come out as well. Shame there's no trading, guess I'm stuck farming on my own.

So the Horodric Caches have pumped out 3 legendaries for me today. That, after never getting one from them before.
Anyone else notice a similar boost? Perhaps that got hotfixed too?

Your crit damage is WAY out of of line with your crit chance.
Reforge crit into crit damage and paragon into crit damage

Obviously gear dependent, but at 35% crit you should have 350%+ crit damage
or somewhere around that ratio, you could probably lose 5% of your crit and gain 100-200% crit damage right away, without changing a piece of gear(just be reforging it)

I always hear people say to keep a 1:10 ratio of crit rate : crit damage. I don't know where the math is to back that up but that's what the norm seems to be.
Try to get a socket weapon. With a Royal Emerald you will instantly get 125% more crit damage which will help a ton with increasing your sheet dps.

I'd be curious to see the reasoning behind 1:10 as well, it must come from the typical ratio of gear out there, because from an individual basis any increase to either is worth while.
I'm still mostly with yellow or random legendary gear so I don't want to spend too much on rerolling until I have better gear (though rerolling on lower gear presumably costs less?)
I do have a socketed wand, have a red gem in there currently, I'll maybe try that and see.
EDIT: Or I'll just faceroll master for gear upgrades, was just trying T1 to see if I could do it yet and access the set drops.

Wow, reforging gear costs a lot of resources for a random try!! Yellows not so much but to try on my legendary ring would cost a forgotten soul, and I only have two! And a flawless imperial topaz, that's like 1 million gold almost. No wonder people complain about reforging costs!
I did replace the gem and I'm at 38% crit and 217% crit damage now.

Tried it out over lunch, and wow what a difference that single gem change made.

I found some Wizard theorycrafting on Reddit today. Pretty light math but it goes into a bit more detail:

The gem in weapon is why I dual wield whenever possible, the increase is so huge, even if the numbers look like the 1 hander is worse.
Another trick I use to figure out if critical damage or chance is best for me at any given time is to respec my paragons points in each and see which gives a bigger boost. Not perfect but beats doing math

Crappy time for no one to be online!
I have a rift guardian almost down, and four Act bounties ready to close, all in T2.
Anyone out there? Can't hang out much longer, have to head out soon.

The ratio is definitely real as far as crit% vs. damage is concerned. I am not sure I would be forcing myself into a strict ratio as blizzard can be more generous in one stat such as crit damage vs percent on a per-item basis. Additionally some builds have more dependency on a crit happening to spawn subsequent events. As a rule though, for each % crit you gain your damage goes up just under 1% and for each 50% crit damage your total damage goes up a little over 2%.
Of course just having everything into crit damage will give you more variability than I am comfortable with, so having some additional points into crit% can help. I believe it's a hyperbolic parabloid or some such thing but I am no math expert.

Yeah for my Wizard the extra %crit adds to my arcane power on crit hits so I can almost spam whatever my secondary attack is, so I could see having a higher ratio than some other builds.
