It is odd that TGW can't even find room for him. There must be something going on there. Hanowski was scoring fine at the beginning of the season and then by mid season was relegated to the 4th line.
|
Why do you think Ward can't even find room for Hanowski? I'm pretty sure he'd love to have Hanowski now and the decision to still have him up with the Flames is out of his hands. Whether the Flames feel they need Hanowski around as a spare, want to get him in some more games soon, or whatever the reason is, I don't think it's hurting his career or a sign that the organization doesn't think much of him. As much as Hanowski could be getting ice time and helping Abby, there's also a handful of good reasons to still have him up with the Flames.

Well, second crappiest. 'Oilers' is kind of untouchable.

Quinnipiac is the name of the University. Their team name is the Bobcats.
When he plays tomorrow, Van Brabant will be the first Quinnipiac graduate to play in the NHL.

First hit by Van Brabant is Dion Phaneuf in front of Toronto crease.

Excited to see what this guy can do. I like the sounds of him from the scouting reports.

I was under the impression that Ward had demoted Hanowski to the fourth line and press box prior to his recent call up. Hanowski was literally fighting (picked up his first few majors) to stay in the line up of the Heat. The Heat were signing and trading for AHL veterans for the top 6 and demoting Hanowski to the 4th line. That's what I remembered reading.
Maybe PMM, Freeway, or Drury can clarify.

Looks like BVB (Are we calling him that?) will be playing on a line with Bouma and Westgarth.
Also:
Roger Millions @RogMillions 5h
For those wondering. The correct pronunciation is Van BRAH bent.

McGrattan is moving up a line or two like he did for part of the Buffalo game?

Was anyone wondering that?
"Brah" is always the correcting pronunciation of bra.

Someone on the news was saying 'bray' iirc
Only part that I wasn't sure about was the end. 'bant' or 'bent'?

Highly unlikely this guy ever becomes an NHL regular (nothing against him in particular but college UFAs have a pretty low hit rate), so hopefully this cup of tea goes well for him.

Hopefully he can be an upgrade on Westgarth. Though Westgarth had decent numbers in college and he can barely play.

Grats Wesgarth and this Van Brabant on the 4th line could be some punishment doled out on the Leafs tomorrow night.

Do we even know if this guy fights? He played college so he obviously hasn't for at least four years.

Dutch here,
The first part is quite obvious, brah is quite a good approximation, the second sound is similar. So to (hopefully) shed some light: definitely not 'ay' (as in ok ay)
Phonetically it comes close to ɑː as in st art or f ather
(" : " draws a vowel out phonetically)
brahba:nt is the best I can come up with.

Sorta.
A lot of the college guys hit a wall after 40-ish games and I think Ward scratched Hanowski to give him a break and a shift in perspective. He wouldn't have gotten the recall if the Flames (and Ward) didn't think he deserved it.

One of the big things I like about Ward is that he seems aware of that 40 game wall. Doesn't panic, like most fans, when the players hit that slump.
Plus, I think Hanowski still being up has to do with his ability, but also going on a long east coast road trip better to have more bodies just in case. He'll probably be reassigned as soon as they touch down in Calgary after this trip.

Read somewhere that the Blackhawks made a near identical offer to BVB, also offering him a spot in the NHL lineup. To have him still pick the Flames offer speaks volumes of his team mentality and loyalty.
