With the singing of Van Barbant and Agistino, I cant help feeling strange about the fact that Hanowski is still up in the big league. Is this due to CBA obligations (irc he was an emergency call up for D. Jones) or could this be because of the organization wanting to keep him up in the big leagues? I also wonder how many roster spots we have left to sign our NCAA players with

No idea why Hanowski is still up if he's healthy but the Flames are fine for roster and contract spots. IIRC there is no roster limit post trade deadline and the Flames are under the 50 contract limit, even with the signings of Agostino and Van Brabant. They still have room for Arnold and Gaudreau too.

Ahh thanks MMF, I was just about to ask about the NHL roster, cause we have 23 healthy bodies right now, was wondering how they would be able to possibly for Gaudreau and Arnold, especially if any of our injured players came back. Forgot that roster limits are lifted post trade deadline.

I'm no expert, but a quick look at capgeek suggests the following:
Van Brabant is the 50th Flames' player signed to a contract.
However, Kulak and Culkin's contracts do not start until next season.
Kanzig, Poirier, Sieloff and Klimchuk's contracts all slide this year (and don't count). Now that Klimchuk has been assigned to Abby that may change, but I don't think so.
Therefore, despite the signings, I believe the Flames still sit at 44 (45 if Klimchuk counts now) and there is still plenty of room for Arnold, Gaudreau, Gillies and maybe a free agent or two.

id imagine that they would want the young guys such as hanowski to get as much playing time as possible. With the signing of all these players (who cant be sent down iirc) you have a build up of players in the big league when really almost all of them should be sent to Abby if that possiblility was available to them. Which to me raises the question of why Hanowski hasnt been sent back, because he was one of the few people who could be. Could this indicate that Burke and Hartley believe him to be at the point where he could stay up full time as appears what they have done with byron?

Possible late bloomer, 15 goals as a senior ain't too shabby. Never hurts to have another big body upfront that likes to hit -- really lacking those types in the system.

No. Hartley seems to like to give the new incomers a couple of days practice before letting them suit up.

it doesn't change because he won't play 10 NHL games, so the contract definitely slides.

I don't want to be a downer but I think they figure Hanowski will never really develop the footspeed to be much more than a 4th liner. Keeping him around allows them to have a ready and able body without having guys like Rienhart and Knight in the pressbox..both of which look like they can develop further..
I don't wanna be down on Hanowski but we all know the 1st round pick and Agostino were the main pieces to that trade. Hanowski was a throw in and a longshot to make the NHL.

I actually thought that Hanowski's footspeed had really improved this year. I think he's got good size and hands to be a decent 3rd line even 4th line option but the Flames coaching staff and the Heat too just don't seem to see it.
It is odd that TGW can't even find room for him. There must be something going on there. Hanowski was scoring fine at the beginning of the season and then by mid season was relegated to the 4th line.

I agree, I doubt we see Hanowski on the Flames NHL roster in 3 to 5 years. With the Flames continually improving the next few seasons I see Hanowski being surpassed by better prospects.
Hanowski would have to beat out Knight, Reinhart, Klimchuk, Jooris, Agostino, Van Brabant, Arnold, Byron, Colborne, Bouma, among others for one of the available bottom 6 spots. I don't see it.

No one has mentioned that 'Quinnipiac' is easily the crappiest name in sports for a team?
Well, second crappiest. 'Oilers' is kind of untouchable.
