Gaudreau has great numbers but people shouldn't just dismiss Gerbe. His numbers are fairly close to Johnny, not quite as high but still outstanding. Gaudreau's freshman season is the only one that really separates them.
even excluding the freshman year.. its not that close:
2nd year:
47 in 41 games for Gerbe
51 in 35 for Gaudreau (if he had played 41 games he'd have 60 points - 13 more)
3rd year:
68 in 43 games for Gerbe
69 in 37 games for Gaudreau (if he had played 43 games he'd have 80 points - 12 more than Gerbe)
"She's my mother and I know what she wants for me, but ultimately it's going to come down to my decision and she knows that and she is really supportive of that with me, as well."
Quote:
"Right now, I'm just worrying about BC. No real set decision yet of what I'm going to do," Gaudreau said. "My mom is really concerned about my degree and me getting stronger and having a senior year and stuff like that. But, I mean, I don't know how much is left here. I've played here for three years and I've had a great three years here so far and I enjoy my time here.
"Senior year would be fun, but I'm not sure if I'll get better at hockey but I'd definitely get a lot stronger in the weight-room.
"It's a decision that I need to make pretty soon."
And make no mistake, it's his decision.
Mom means well, but this is up to Johnny.
"Ultimately, it's going to come down to what I think is best for me," Gaudreau said. "I have my mom telling me what she thinks I should do. I have advisers and family members and everyone telling me what they think I should do and what they think is best for me, but it's going to come down to what I think is best for me and what's best for my hockey career."

Interesting for him to say that even with the NCAA tournament looming, obviously it is the truth, but so far JG has been pretty good at deflecting those kind of comments.
As for him getting hit, Notre Dame is a pretty stingy defensive team that prides themselves on shutting down their opponents. The game that I saw, they tried probably 10 or 11 times to hit JG and were only succesful once because he LET them so he could make a hockey play. And even that was a weak tap against the boards. Every other attempt he was "shuckin' and jivin'" as the BC fans around me described it.
There is a big difference between the ND defense and the guys he will face in the show or AHL, but that being said he is obviously aware of the fact people want to take his head off and has developed his play style accordingly.

“There is everything but his size to like about him,’’ said Burke, who generally prefers to stock his rosters with bigger, rougher sorts. “Sure, it’s a question. But his skill set is so high. His hockey IQ. His vision. His passing. His scoring. When he’s on the ice, he makes everyone around him dangerous. Will he fill out to, say, 180 pounds? Well, he hasn’t grown much in the last couple of years, so we’re not counting on that. But it’s reasonable to think he can add another 10 pounds of weight, muscle.
“You see him play, he leaps out at you. So it will be a challenge, but I’d say if there’s a kid who can do it, he’s the one.’’
York on Johnny compared to other former smaller BC players:
Quote:
“Johnny is a little more cerebral. He sees things more and utilizes his other players more than, say, Atkinson and Gerbe and Gionta,’’ said York. “He is more of a chess player on the ice. Gionta, Gerbe, Atkinson all were little fire hydrants, where Johnny is just, well, there’s hardly anything to him at all. But he’s very elusive.
“His ability to create something out of nothing is incredible. He will see you over here, almost like a great point guard, like a Larry Bird or Magic [Johnson]. It surprises people. If it was a basketball [his passes] would hit you on the head.’’
Like many of the his best players over the years at BC, said York, Gaudreau also is without ego.
“If I brought you into our locker room and I walked you around the room and you thought, ‘OK, who is the difference-maker here?’ you’d walk right by him. His whole demeanor. He is very, very quiet. There’s nothing that would make you stop at his stall and say, ‘This guy is the difference-maker in tonight’s game.’ You’d never expect that. He just sort of blends in, where Gionta and Gerbe had more, ‘Hey, I’m standing up . . . I’m the guy.’ Their persona was like that. Then Johnny, the game starts and all of a sudden it’s, ‘Whoa! This is the guy . . . this is the guy!’ ’’

“He’s fun to watch,” Brown said. “Johnny has such an imagination. Probably once a day or more he brings a smile to your face because he tries something unique. That’s hard to do after three years.”
The flashy winger's offensive ability has created a buzz with Gaudreau being one of the most fascinating players to watch at the NCAA level. His incredible play has helped him earn the nickname “Johnny Hockey".
“It’s exciting and a cool name to have,” he said. “I’m trying to take it all in and enjoy it. I never thought that I would have something like that as a nickname.”
First hat-trick and a 6 point night in a 6-2 win. I think they go to the final and I hope they do because I think he definitely will sign at tht point. Go Johnny Hockey Go!!!
After today's outburst, Johnny now leads the nation in everything...Goals, assists, points, points per game, game-winning goals (tie), and plus/minus (tied with Bill Arnold).
Gaudreau and Arnold are both +39. Kevin Hayes is third in the nation at +31, and fourth is Shayne Gostisbehere from Union at +28.

A national championship would make it that he has nothing more to achieve in college hockey. In that case I will cheer for him to win as it won't matter if he gets a few Flames games in this year.

-USHL championship, rookie of the year, all-rookie team
-NCAA championship, Beanpot MVP, all-rookie team, Hockey East tournament MVP
-Hobey Baker runner-up, First-Team All-American, Hockey East MVP, World Junior all-star, World Junior gold medalist
Eric Francis with an opinion most Flames fans don't want to hear.
Quote:
Calgary Flames fans don’t want to hear or read this, but Jane Gaudreau may just be right.
Her son, young Johnny, probably should play one more year at Boston College.
He probably should graduate.
He probably should take the time to get bigger and stronger.
And he probably should enjoy one final year as little big man on campus.
Quote:
It would certainly be exciting to have a young speedster who tied Paul Kariya’s Hockey East-record 31-game point streak in Calgary as part of the rebuild.
All Flames fans want that.
Not many in Calgary want to risk losing him by admitting moms usually know best.
But deep down most observers probably know that having patience — and listening to his mother — is probably what will serve him best in the long run.
