Two of the stupidest things, in my opinion, that came out of the owners meetings.

1. Permit a coach to challenge any official’s decision, except scoring plays which are automatically reviewed. FAILED

I don't get there, there's pages and pages on what can/can't be reviewed in regular game play. If the NFL is serious about getting the calls right, let a coach challenge anything, if they are willing to part with a timeout. I can see this idea gaining enough traction to get passed in the coming years.

2. Modify pass interference so that it can be called within one yard of the line of scrimmage. TABLED

Am I reading this right? If this was passed, it would essentially destroy bump and run coverage, since PI could be called within 1 yard instead of 5 yards?

If so, welcome to the National WR Screen League.

Goodell is envisioning a league where every game has scores of 50+ points. Points do not equal entertainment!

Eventually no kids growing up are going to want to play defense because they are eliminating every rule that gives defense a chance. The rules are already heavily slanted to the O.

I would love to see them allow MORE contact by DBs on receivers

EDIT: The most important rule that needs to be changed is roughing the passer. Give the QB the same protection any other player gets

I much prefer a defensive game, I hate the commissioner with the fire of a thousand suns, but I have to disagree with this. The rules protecting the QB may be a bit extreme, but you do have to protect them a little more. No one wants to see a prime time matchup of Chase Daniel vs. Brock Osweiler (sorry, Dis).

At least not yet! Maybe in a couple of years that would be a good matchup!

By creating more opportunities for PI you are going to ruin a game that features great battles and athleticism. Every play is going to be a pass play trying for the PI.

PI should be a 15 yard penalty.

It is already a joke when the play is over, no flag was thrown, the receiver starts making a throwing the flag gesture and out it comes late because the receiver called for it. I think they should pass a rule that if a receiver makes a throwing a flag gesture his team should be penalized.

I'm sorry but players whining to the refs happens in every sport, so not entirely sure where you're going with this.

Hockey players all throw their hands in the air when they think there's a delay of game penalty, both actions shouldn't have an impact on the refs decisions.

or after they throw it the "yep I know it's PI, I called that, you know that" nodding head of approval.

I understand it's a fast game and the element of human judgement is going to come into play but what attracted to me to the NFL over the CFL was the fact that every pass downfield didn't result in a huge overthrow or a PI call. Let the players play to some extent

I watch football to see Calvin Johnson out muscle 3 defenders in the endzone to make the catch. I don't watch football to watch some guy make a catch because no one can touch him.

If this rule eventually comes to pass I hope they are just as hard on receivers and call them anytime they touch a defender. But by that point we may as well play two hand touch.

I guess they have some real big concerns with his off field behavior and his association with the Crips. Eagles have been doing extensive checking into his background and circle of friends.

Never a huge DeSean fan but he is definitely a talent and will land somewhere.

I'm a little concerned the Raiders may take a run at him seeing they have a lot of cap space to sign him to a big deal as he's one of those guys that won't take a discount and will be looking for the biggest deal he can get. His attitude and gang ties don't make for a great team player. When a guy of that talent at his age gets cut that's as big of a red flag as you will ever see.

Great talent, right age and seemingly a perfect fit for the system he was in? Major red flag. He'll cash in somewhere though but I would be leery.

I think he's going to be disappointed in the guaranteed money he get's offered from teams. After the Hernandez debacle I think teams will be leery of guys like this and I imagine at least half the league won't even consider bringing him in.

Sounds like Johnny Football impressed, can anyone clarify this in terms of they saw or heard?

Agreed. I don't believe he sees the money that the Eagles were willing to pay him. There's a tweet out there from a teammate about it being and unpopular decision but great for the direction of the team. Something like that. Very telling if you take it to mean what I think it means.

Depending on who you listened to he either had the outright best pro day of all QB's or he was tied with Bortles for best pro day. Pro days are scripted to players strengths and teams know that and don't put as much stock into it as they do actual game tape. Remember Mike Maylock said Jamarcus Russell had the best pro day he's ever seen.
