no kidding, I can't believe anyone would pay for satellite radio anymore. FM radio sure because it's free, rdio et al because if you're going to pay you get a ridiculous selection with no commercials. Satellite seems to be taking the worst of the 2 and putting it together. Limited music selection, can only listen in your car, coverage which won't be everywhere you're travelling and you have to pay for it on top of all that? I'll pass.

And for those who haven't used a service like Rdio no you don't even need a mobile connection or wifi to use the service, just sync a ton of music to your mobile device when you have a wifi connection. So you can be trolling along through the mountains with no radio or satellite service and your music won't skip a beat.

Personally, I hate the artist payment model for Rdio. One could be a top play artist on Rdio and receive less than $100 a month.

Is it that different from the current system on a per ear basis?

On a current radio station they get like 10 cents per play or some number. This goes out to say 10,000 or 100,000 people. So per person listing you get about .00001 cents. The rdio and other models pay roughly this amount. So what happens is the total amount of money spent is similar however there is a lot more variety being listened to and a lot less total ears listening.

But with Rdio's practice the user can "save" the music on their device thus making the music an on-demand model and removes incentive to actually buy the recording.

yeah that will make a big difference as no one would ever hit the 35,000 listens required to earn the 35 cents the artists currently make off itunes.

Rock / Ice chunks hitting my windshield.

While I am not really as concerned about the chips because of the present condition of my window, but holy crap, they're all hitting right in front of my face. I am nervous about the next "big one" that finally explodes through and hits me in the head or throat.

Why is that my problem? Also, I thought that article had been somewhat "debunked".

That's a very fair reason to not use it, and honestly it comes down to personal preference. But by that same token, is it any different than watching Breaking Bad on Netflix instead of buying the DVDs?

Yes the economics of TV/Music are very different, but the market rate for recorded music has been hovering around $0 since the Napster days. Right or wrong most music consumers aren't willing to drop $20 on a single album anymore.

Personally I still pick up vinyl copies of albums I really like as I know the artist make squat from Rdio. But I also don't feel too bad about checking out something like Katy Perry or Skrillex on release day just because it's there. Both albums I might give a single spin to, but wouldn't have picked up either way.

Spotify is not Rdio.

Very rarely do the writers, directors, actors and actresses in a given television production get a cut of DVD sales.

The market rate? Please explain to me how you arrived at this "market rate" as I still have to pay for music when I make a purchase through the iTunes store. As far as $20 an album goes, I typically spend around $8-14 for an album on iTunes so nobody has to go back to 1980's Compact Disc pricing for music.

I wouldn't feel too bad about previewing an album then deciding not to buy because its not your cup of tea. That's not too different than the old practice of borrowing a friend's album to give it a spin.

However, if I like the music an artist is putting out and I want them to keep doing so I'll buy their album.

To be clear, I'm not saying you (or anyone else) wrong for choosing to not use services like Rdio/Spotify, but that different people have different consumption levels when it comes to music and what they are willing to pay for it.

Some people value selection (EG: I want to pick every track/artist I hear in a day), where as others are much more passive about the process and value convenience (EG: I just want background noise).

On the one extreme is iTunes, paying for every track in your library and meticulously curating everything you hear during the day. On the other extreme is FM Radio, you don't pay a dime and you have no say in what's played.

Rdio/Spotify fall somewhere in the middle, and for many of us it's the sweet spot.

How about giving 110%. It's not possible. If you can give '110%' that's your new 100%.

Exams with bonus questions for extra % really effed kids over.

Expiry dates are suggestions, like speed limits, go ahead and eat it unless it is moldy.
