Thanks. Just trying to understand if the fire theory is plausible as to a layman like myself, it seems to be the most likely.

I don't think you can separately disconnect the oxygen supply giving the pilots oxygen, but not the passengers. As the reason you stated, oxygen fueling the fire, was stated as a reason the pilots wouldn't have used the masks.
What if the fire started in or near the cockpit. That would make it even worse, no? If the pilots are forced out due to smoke or heat, or the electronics fail quickly...

Let's say there was a fire onboard. Would the following make any sense:
- Descend to 24,000 feet.
- Pilots put on oxygen masks
- Pilots disengage the passenger mask oxygen flow. (You'll see why in a moment.)
- Decompress the cabin to attempt to control the fire. (Like in the Val Kilmer Mars movie.) The reason to disengage the passenger oxygen is to not provide oxygen for the fire.
- Turns out the pilots shut off all oxygen including their own; leading them to suffer from hypoxia.
- Autopilot flies the plane on last course until fuel runs out.
Even remotely possible?

I know it's probably been brought up before...
But, every single person on that flight probably had a cellphone.
Even in the most perilous situations, at least one of the 239 people would have been able to get an emergency text or call to someone.
Even the plane was hijacked and they collected the communication devices, no way they could get them all before someone called out.
Section of plane is on fire, someone calls a loved one.
I think back to 9/11 and all the calls made then, fast forward 13 years and even more people have a mobile device.
Unless the plane was struck by a missile or exploded without warning into a million pieces, it's mindbottling how there's no known calls.

You would have little to no signal at altitude over the ocean. Cell phone tower antenna gain pattern presents a shaped signal that doesn't direct/accept much energy vertically.

there's a grave assumption there that even one person on the plane owned a satellite phone.

Ok, but flight crew has separate oxygen... Bottled oxygen in the 777 flight deck for crew - not the same systems used for passengers. And they'd go on o2 - fire or not - to ensure they stay conscious... For just that reason - no good to anyone dead.
And if the fire was in the cockpit - plane would have splashed long before - about when the autopilot went melty... Not 6 hours later... 777 is fly by wire; computers go - so does airplane.

It is a actually a good theory, but like I said a fire that causes the damage he suggested who likely end up with the aircraft being destroyed by the fire.
I doubt we will ever know what happened.

The fire theory runs counter to the evidence so far, three people familiar with U.S. investigators’ analysis said. They asked not to be identified because they aren’t authorized to speak about the probe.
Critical electrical systems stopped functioning in a way that suggests they were switched off, rather than failing as they would have in a fire, the people said.
Airline crashes due to fires occur less than 20 minutes on average after blazes break out, while satellite transmissions show Flight 370 was operating for as many as seven hours, said John Cox, a Washington-based aviation safety consultant who co-wrote a 2013 U.K. Royal Aeronautical Society report on aircraft fires.

My guess is it crashed in a remote mountain somewhere which is why debris was never found. Sadly unless those blackboxes are found, we'll never know what occurred.
