Just don't wear a tie. It's ok, we all know they suck and no one is going to judge you for not wearing it.

I'm guessing Burke was at the game to see just how good Ekblad really is and if he's worth giving up whatever it'll take to land him.
My prediction is that he is. The Flames will either end up winning the draft lottery or will make a trade for the first overall pick and draft Ekblad.

If you expand the definition to a player that could play on a top line on some teams than I would project Reinhart at that level. But in my opinion we are trying to build a cup team.
That said, Reinhart (and Monahan) could exceed my expectations. None of us get paid to do this, and those that do are just making a slightly more educated guess!

It seems to me that what you might consider to be a 1st line C, others would call elite. I think there are only a handful of elite C in the entire league.
I would think that Monahan and Reinhart both project to solid 1st line C.

I do believe Burke will try to get Ekblad one way or another knowing how he covets big defensemen.

Moving up will likely cost Gaudreau.

I'd probably be okay with that. We'll be trading a position of strength but if Buffalo has the 1st, they already have some small forwards.

Then it's not worth it.
He could very well be better than any of the top 5 forwards this draft.

How about Sven?
Sven + Dal Colle for Ekblad. I think I would do it.

Gaudreau + our pick for the 1st overall I'd do in a heart beat.

Yeah I'd do our pick + Gaudreau for the 1st overall this year no problem. I'd be more comfortable with that that 1st + Sven for sure.

Sven I would consider. But it would still be a difficult move to make, as his potential has not been fully realized, and won't be for a few years I don't think. He was more of a project than we thought when we saw him come up and score a few goals during his 94 point WHL season.

If the Flames end up in the 3rd or 4th spot there is no reason whatsoever the Flames should be using as asset like Gaudreau to move up. If they're in 5th-6th okay sure but the gap between a guy you'll get at 3rd from 1st isn't worth it at all.

No, in 3 or 4 you don't add Gaudreau, you take Bennett/Reinhart/Draisaitl.
I think 5/6 is where we end up, likely 5 at this point.

I'd offer our second and a prospect that isn't Johnny, Sven or Poirier to move from 5th/6th to (say) 3rd, though. I'd like to have our pick of the top center prospects after Reinhart.

I propose we offer our 1st + Klimchuk + 2nd or something like that.

Gaudreau might be as good as any of these kids. I don't see him as a throw-in to move up a few spots.

I don't think it's a bad thing if Reinhart falls into our lap. From what I've seen from Monahan I think he could turn into a great #2C. That's not a knock on him at all, alot of teams in the NHL lack a number 2 centreman who are as gifted as Monahan offensively.
And if we get Ekblad, Bennet, Dal Colle or Draisaitl they immediatly become our best prospect. I don't think there is a lot of losing to be done for us in this draft.

I believe in the Jays.

If the team lands in the 5 or 6 slot I'd rather see what it would take to move to 4. I just don't think there's that much of a difference between 1 and 4 and why burn off the assets required to go to 1 if you can get something pretty close to just as good at 4.
