Update:
It would appear that #KU618 has landed without incident at Kuwait City. Other aircraft currently landing on other runways.
(This is from twitter, so may not be 100% valid)

Why does the Calgary International Airport have the IATA code YYC? Why do airports in Canada all start with Y? What's up with the second Y?
Other airports use logical names like:
ATL - Atlanta
PHX - Phoenix
HKG - Hong Kong
STL - Salt Lake City
MEX - Mexico City
IST- Istanbul
DFW - Dallas-Fort-Worth
etc.

As much as I feel like condemning them just like you, I know I'd probably pick up my bag. I just know it haha.

How long would it take for them to get their bags back had they left them on board? That's what would be going through my head after seeing that everybody was okay.

Yeah, that's what would be going through my head (and apparently most people in that picture). Two seconds to grab it now and it's with me.
Especially considering most people have expensive things in their carry on now a days. It's not like the 90's where you'd be leaving your Sanyo discman and a magazine.

I try to travel as light as possible for carry on gear so Yah, if I just had a little bag at my feet I'd probably grab it too.
That must drive AVgeeks like Bigtime and JonDuke crazy though.

What most people don't understand is that the carry on they're trying to save could get caught on an arm rest, or fall to the ground and trip someone, and impede the escape of other people.

I hadn't even noticed until recently, but JonDuke has really propelled (ha) himself into Bigtime/Ryandcoke levels of Avgeekiness.
The holy trinity of aviation expertise, if you will.
