It's another by-product of Microsoft's shoddy marketing research and development strategy. Microsoft has long been known to try to catch the competition. In the case of Kinect, Microsoft saw how well the Wii was doing and thought they'd make a boat load of money off of casuals by forcing Kinect bundling. Problem is they reacted way too late and a lot of the casuals had already moved onto mobile.
Way too late? Not even 6 months into the next generation. A little bit early don't you think? Sony has a leg up right now but it's a marathon not a sprint. I have learned from internet fanboys over the past year that it's all over and Apple and Microsoft will both soon go out of business.
The biggest problem with Kinect is that there hasn't been a must have game for it. Dancing games, meh. Voice control, meh. If there was a really good game for Kinect it would be a different story. Maybe the new Kinect hardware will changes things and allow a great game to be made, but until then it's hard to care about it let alone pay an extra $100 for it.

When I say way too late, I didn't mean the generation I meant the market for casual games that affects multiple generations of products, which the Kinect would have focused on, is no longer really mainstream with most of those users migrating to mobile gaming. This applies to all the casual addressable market for Playstation Eye and Wii U as well.
Hardly fanboyism when I'm just recognizing the casual industry trend, that's already happened with mobile gaming in Vita, Wii U and 3DS relative to generations past, and pointing out Microsoft's mandatory kinect bundling strategy flies right in the face of market momentum. It's a matter of available dollars. Apple on the other hand is far from doomed. I expect them to keep a healthy profit margin for a long while.

Yeah, don't think Microsoft has anything to worry about where profit is concerned.
Yes but relative to Office and Windows, the Xbox and device division brings in a very small percentage of MSFT's profits. Which is why Elop proposed spinning things off in the first place. Not that I think that is a good idea since I believe Bing and Xbox 1 are what is keeping MSFT relevant going into the post-PC era.
In other news, reports are coming out as to why there was no PS4 version of TitanFall. It seems in the early stages of the console war, before EA even knew the console pricing, they bet big that PS4 would be a colossal bust compared to the Xbox 1.
Quote:
The Titanfall PS4 port was apparently cancelled due to Electronic Arts executives assuming the PlayStation 4 would lose the console war to the Xbox One. Oops?
...
This decision isn’t just affecting Microsoft, it’s also costing EA millions because of their decision to make Titanfall a Xbox One exclusive. Electronic Arts CFO Blake Jorgensen once commented on the the lack of a PS4 Titanfall port:
“That’s a process that’s been done through the industry for many years. There are lots of single-platform titles. Obviously, you work with the first-parties to make sure the economics make sense for all sides, and we made that decision on Titanfall. We’re trying to make sure that we’ve developed a great relationship with them. We helped them on marketing, we helped them on development where they need it. And we try to maintain a strong partnership with them over time.”
But as PlayStation 4 sales figures continue to outpace the Xbox One EA must be considering the impact this will have on the game sales. We do know a Titanfall PlayStation 4 version was in the works at one time because the files for the PC version contains references to the PS4. Even though EA hasn’t said anything to this effect, some analysts believe a Titanfall PS4 port may still be in the works but won’t be announced for at least six months to a year in order to not Titan-stomp on Microsoft’s toes.
I was about to start looking at getting a next gen console. Then I actually looked at the titles available. Console games seem to just completely blow at this point... I can't imagine what I'd play, other than FIFA. I guess I'll wait until the next NHL or something.
Titanfall looks like a generic FPS, basically appealing to the lowest common denominator masses. No interest in those games.
Don't know what to think about infamous but an over-the-shoulder game of smashing things with superpowers... it's nothing groundbreaking, any more than a similar game released for PS3 would have been two years ago.
MGS5 could be good but it's not traditionally my style of game, I played the others - or at least some of them - but was never a huge fan so it's not a "MUST BUY MUST PLAY" situation. And I don't gather that there's overwhelming excitement surrounding it, any more than any other large release is heavily anticipated.
It just seems to me like there's been no splash, no huge, must have title that would result in people making the jump to next gen. Honestly, I don't even know what that title would be... maybe FFXV, but that series' brand is worth less now than it ever has been. The Mass Effect franchise would have done it but that door's shut and a spin off wouldn't quite cut it. Fallout 4 would probably have done it.
Honestly, it sounds like you are a very picky gamer. The new consoles have something for just about everybody: Racing, sports, action, adventure, puzzle, survival horror, FPS, etc. The one area that is lacking is RPGs which are the 3 games that you listed above (Final Fantasy, Fallout and Mass Effect)
If that is what you are waiting on, by all means hold off.
Side note pet-peeve: PS4 and XBone are now "current-gen" ps3 and xbox are now "last-gen" sorry small peeve of mine
So any potentially good console-only games coming out yet besides Infamous then, or should I just spend $600 on a Gsync monitor and keep waiting to bother with a console?

Stick with the master race by next year you will be able to get both consoles for 600$.
And people still buy monitors crazy crazy didn't know it was still 2005.

I watch maybe 1 or 2 3D blu rays a year on my TV, but I'm still extremely disappointed by the lack of capability on the Xbox One. How does a next gen console not have that function when my PS3 (which I sold) had that function.
I'm glad this update will fix many of the party issues, but I'm still pissed they can't add a 3D patch.
I know a lot of people think 3D is dying and a gimmick, but I love watching 3D movies at home (rather then the theatre). Just picked up Thor in 3D and it was awesome.
