No kidding. Some of the crying in this thread is hilarious. After seeing what Vanek and Moulson got, oh well. Lets not forget in the Hemsky and Gaborik deal, they had to eat salary..... is a 3rd round pick worth a million bucks? I don't know..... if the Feaster-fan-club are crying that Feaster would have at least got something, where is the outrage for the lost 6th round pick for Lane MacDermid?

I really hope those dinks on 960 actually nut up and ask some tough questions when Burke is on today.

This blows a hole in the running CP meme used to justify any trade of Flames draft picks for players or any trade that doesn't value futures that "well we can always flip him at the deadline and recoup the pick."

Thanks tips. The risk is that it's not done and Cammellari might just wait until the UFA market opens and the Flames get nothing.
Snow didn't get a good return for Vanek, but he got something.

Not really. It pays off in future years. GMs are less likely to call his bluff or try to lowball him now.

So his play dropped off to the point that he's useless here but yet his play was still good enough to get a good return?
If Vanek got a 2nd Cammy wasn't getting anywhere near that. Hell for a rental player based on this years plays I reckon even Hemsky has more value moving forward. Cammy for a 4th is a trade I'm glad Burke didn't make.

I really wanted to Cammy gone... mostly to make room for younger top 6 options (Grandlund, Baertschi... Gaudreau, etc..). Also, just not a big fan of his. Pretty disappointing to say the least.

So what exactly did Burke do that Feaster couldn't?

So, where is the guy who was downing on me when I saying that the Kings were the only team with real interest in Cammy yesterday?
There's a difference between kicking tires and a plausible interest in trade.
Cammy had better check back in for the rest of the year. I don't want to see him pouting the remainder of the season.

It was the perfect storm this year. GM's across the league looked to have finally wised up at the deadline and in unison put their foot down to overpaying for rentals. Combine that with the fact Cammalleri has had a poor season means the offers likely just weren't there.
None of us know what the best offer was but if it was a 3rd round pick I'm not going to lose sleep over it. In fact I'm more surprised that either Butler or Stempniak weren't moved for 3-5th round picks.

Huh? So hold your ground and let absolutely nothing for a half decent player. Repeat, absolutely nothing whatsoever.
You do realize Cammy isn't resigning.
Ahhhhhhhhh this organization is never short on silliness.

I'm certainly not a card carrying member of the Feaster Fan Club, but this is pretty weak. A 3rd and a 5th isn't as much as most people thought Cammellari would return, but risking losing him for nothing? Yikes. And who knows, extra picks can be used down the toad to move up in the draft... perhaps to jump the Oilers and snag Ekblad.

Flames don't get nothing, they get cap space. Are you not seeing all these moves where teams have to retain salary which can't be used? Cap space is a valuable commodity, it's not nothing.
The outrage about this is so bizarre.

However, when you look at Moulson, Vanek, Legwand, Hemsky, Schultz, Callahan, et al, Burke was the only one who "ran out of time" or whatever. Then you look at Ottawa and how they dealt with Phillips (the opposite outcome of Callahan) - it was either going to be a trade or an extension... not neither. Teams like Buffalo had numerous potential deals in the air and they got a few done (Moulson, Halak, the LA Kings deal, the Miller deal) and didn't "run out of time".
Unless something comes down the wire in the next couple hours, Burke got outfoxed by Garth Snow, McTavish and the Sabres GM (with far less experience). Embarrassing.
|
You do realize that Calgary can still re-sign Cammaleri. They can even trade him at the draft. Bottom line is the major players were tied up dealing with Moulson and Vanek. Even those went to the wire and the return was very underwhelming. They can still get value for Cammaleri.

It all comes down to price.
If he signed for 3yr for 9m, i'd take that any day.
All of the GMs commenting so far on TSN have basically been saying offers were ####. Across the board.
Sometimes a buyers market makes prices so low, there is no point in selling.

And there was an abnormally high supply of talented forwards available for trade.

To be fair though, he was unlucky with injuries this year.
Some might ask WHY would HE re-sign here? Well, if the Flames offer him, say 1 year, $7M deal, I can't possibly see how he turns it down. We're going to have overpay a FA, might as well be a guy who's well liked in the locker room if nothing else.
Best case scenario, he plays well, we get a lot more than we could have gotten today. Worst case scenario, he plays like c*ap we either trade him for a late pick(s), play like c*ap and draft McDavid.

LOL if you think a 3rd or 5th rounder would be the difference to move up to grab Ekblad.
