Disappointed. If you lose him for nothing that's bad. Who honestly as a GM would trade for his rights a few days before he is a UFA? The only plus to losing him to free up a contract spot and money. For a team that needs to find a way to get the higher cap. Looks like Burke is going to pay for free agents this year unless he can work a miracle at the draft.

If you guys thought Cammalleri had no motivation to play before, wait until you see him for the next 5 weeks.

You are assuming that the Flames didn't take what they could get. Conclusions based on assumptions aren't reasonable conclusions.

It's also possible that once the merry-go-round got going and the higher pieces got moved there wasn't anyone left that wanted Cammy, or the teams that were waiting for the log jam to clear didn't have enough time to move after it did.

Except he shouldn't be the GM at that point. Don't disagree with now offloading Cammy if there wasn't a satisfactory deal, but a new GM should be a place so he could have different poise next year.

I don't, but regardless, the options, in order of preference are:

1. Trade Cammellari for assets.
2. Re-sign Cammellari to a short term ("prove yourself") deal and trade him next year.
3. Re-sign Cammellari to a moderate term (3-4 year) deal
4. What Burke ended up with.

I'm floored. Burke is the only idiot that didn't get his job done.

Not like I am on the ledge of a building right now, but I've lost quite a bit of confidence in Burke today. He should have gotten a trade done, he waited too long for the Vanek and Moulson trades to go through, and should have been the one to break the dam like the Blue Jackets did with Gaborik.

I heard that too, and it's possible that was true then and true today. It could have been true yesterday and not true today.

I want to hear what Burke says about it.

You can get at least that at the draft or before FA starts for a team wanting to talk to a player before everyone else.

Whatever are we going to do without a 3rd and 5th round pick we could have gotten... it's going to ruin this franchise.

If we're going to lose, I'd rather a young player be in the lineup, not Cammalleri.

Show of hands...

"Who thought Matt Stajan would be re-signed?".

Let's just say, after that signing, I dont take any re-signing for granted.

That said, this was the softest trade deadline I have ever seen. It's quite possible that no offers came in and trying to trade his rights may be the most lucrative option. How much outrage would their be if he was traded for a 3rd round pick.

Look at what other trades went through, Cammi's cap hit and more importantly, look at who else didnt get traded. The only anomaly is the Hemsky trade.

Just be glad we werent the Rangers. Of all the deals today, they got the worst of it all.

Wonder if he outsmarted himself - Guess you could say he lost the game of chicken.

Once you show you're going to panic and accept less if teams wait you out... they'll start doing that. Burke set the price... teams couldn't match it or come close enough to it.

You're right, I am making assumptions because like all of us (with the possible exception of sureloss), I'm not privy to the inner NHL circle discussions.

However, when you look at Moulson, Vanek, Legwand, Hemsky, Schultz, Callahan, et al, Burke was the only one who "ran out of time" or whatever. Then you look at Ottawa and how they dealt with Phillips (the opposite outcome of Callahan) - it was either going to be a trade or an extension... not neither. Teams like Buffalo had numerous potential deals in the air and they got a few done (Moulson, Halak, the LA Kings deal, the Miller deal) and didn't "run out of time".

Unless something comes down the wire in the next couple hours, Burke got outfoxed by Garth Snow, McTavish and the Sabres GM (with far less experience). Embarrassing.

Since Hartley's coaching... at least if he plays like crap he ~might~ not see a ton of icetime.

Was hoping we'd have some empty spots to call up some rookies though.

Why resign him? Yes he may be great in the locker room but his play has dropped off. Only thing I can think of is pay him to get to the cap floor.
