I do however think Cammy gets traded for a late 1st round pick and a prospect nobody's ever heard of.

Butler is hardly a big minute guy. You've got Gio, Brodie, Wideman, and Russell all averaging over 23 minutes a game, then Butler and Smid clocking in at just under 20. Smid easily replaces Butler in all aspects of the game, and then all you're left in terms of holes to fill is a 6th defenseman that doesn't #### the bed at every given opportunity (i.e. Derek Smith).
Problem solved, and yes, Chris Butler is a problem.

I have a feeling the only player traded is Mike Cammalleri, and he's moved for a 2nd round pick and a B-prospect.
EDIT: More specifically, Mike Cammalleri to Anaheim for Devante Smith-Pelley and a 2nd rounder.

Cammy + Brodie + retaining $ will be a package I see put together for a BIG return.
Stemps needs a big game vs the wild to even get a sniff from other teams, 3rd rounder at best.
Buttler will be a last minute type guy after teams missed out on their A,B,C,D GUY .

I'm not saying that's a sound "They should definitely do it", but I would be pretty happy to see it happen.

My question was less about why would the Flames trade Wideman, and more about "why would Flames have to add a 3rd to Wideman in order to get Jake Gardiner?"
I think you're greatly underestimating the value of Wideman, or overestimating the value of Gardiner. I think a lot of teams would have interest in a 2nd pairing RH shot d-man that can QB a powerplay, and would likely give up a Gardiner caliber prospect without Flames having to throw in a pick.

TJ Brodie isn't going anywhere, I see him staying with us for a long time. 23 years old and arguably the second-best defenseman on our team. We lack defense, we're not trading him.
If any D is being traded on the Flames, it's a 50/50 between Butler and Wideman. And lately, Butler has been playing better than Wideman, so I am not even sure what one I would prefer to stay if only one was traded.

I think if Butler is traded for straight picks, he will fetch a 2nd rounder.

Why would we punch a hole like that into our lineup and our future lineup?
Trading Brodie would be silly. If the return is a young skilled forward, now we need a young skilled D-man again. If it's a D-man, why not just keep our guy with an as yet undetermined potential?

Trading Butler for a pick won't make us better this season but he's a UFA at the end of the season and there has been no talk of contract in the media. If the Flames don't want him back or Butler doesn't want to be back it makes sense to trade him for anything as he's not going to be a part of a playoff run this year in Calgary.

This first trade is Wideman within the next 24 hours.
Cammy get traded early Wednesday am, for a 1st and some "prospect"
Butler will not be traded, no one will want him.

Highly doubt that, Feaster isn't an NHL GM anymore.

Did Feaster sign Brodie to his new deal or was that Burke?

Everything is waiting on Vanek, then once that domino falls, Moulson and Cammalleri come into play. Stempniak is a lesser (but cheaper) prize. Butler and Galiardi may not garner enough interest, but if there is any out there, I expect Burke to cash in.
I would say Cammalleri goes first, to Anaheim for a package including Sami Vatanen
