My god, if rookie GM Tim Murray can pull of this trade (basically a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, Halak and Stewart) for two assets I cannot even begin to imagine what Brian Burke can pull off for his assets. This is going to be the greatest trade deadline in Flames history, I am sure that Burkie will really jump start the rebuilding process. You have to think with all his options for a hockey trade (Cammy, Glencross, Hudler, Stajan, Stempniak, Wideman, Giordano, Smid, Jones, Butler, Russell) Burke has to be able to wheel and deal his way to a number of great trades.

Ott = 1st?

Cami > Ott

Might be a good week for us after all.

Jesus, Buffalo is going to have a ridiculous number of draft picks.

Yup but you have to remember you only have 50 contracts. Plus you need to figure where all these guys play as well in couple of years.

Good thing for them the team is full of mostly junk right now.

First glance I didn't like it for Buffalo at all but since they are flipping Stewart and Halak for futures I think it is a fantastic move

That's when you bundle good players for great players. Hardly a problem.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Of course, wouldn't it be infinitely more interesting if BUF traded Stewart and Matt Moulson to OTT for a really big haul. Buckle up.

The first domino just dropped and the Blues just got a ton better, Value of players just went up for any team competing with the Blues.

Halak will be a Wild or Capital in the 24.

How does a rental goalie bring that much?

Burke was right, GM's make their biggest mistakes this time of year. If the Blues the cup this trade will be genius, most likely it will look terrible next season.

Say what? Not sure you'd find many that would agree. Miller is clearly better IMO.

Seriously?

IMO, saying Halak is better than Miller is like saying Butler is better than Giordano.

Miller has PROVEN he is a top #1. Halak has never done that.

Miller, with that St Louis team in front of him, could/should be world class again.

You are ignoring Steve Ott here. His value was quite high as well. He is likely worth Stewart+ on his own.

Great trade for St Louis - they are stacked now for a cup run

FOr Buffalo, lots of quantity, but how much quality?

Halak: meh
Stewart: if people thought he was lazy in StL, wait until they see him in Buffalo
1st in 15: probably 25-30th
don't know the prospect

I see it as a late 1st for Ott and a bunch of stuff for Millar.
Speculation is they may move both of Halak and Stewart for other pieces before the deadline.

Leo Komarov tweeted: good of luck @BuffaloSabres as you gear up for big Memorial Cup run.

Nice.

The sum of the parts will make Buffalo a winner this deadline. They will recoup multiple picks in the top 60 in each of the next two drafts. The result of their deals will not be seen until after the 2015 draft, and they should be substantial!

I think it's a terrific deal all around. So glad the first domino has fallen, bring on the trades!

I guess so, I don't think Ott is that great but maybe others do. To me Miller and Halak are of similar value, Miller a bit more. I guess we'll see in the playoffs.

It's not just about acquiring picks though, you also have to develop players. And Buffalo is going to ice a CHL team for the next couple years.

That can be really hard on the confidence and development of young players

Personally, I think they are over-doing it
