Miller is still great. He's putting up good numbers on the worst team in the league. Imagine him playing with a real defence in front of him?

Why St. Louis may have given up a 2015 1st rounder instead of a 2014 1st rounder:
it could have been the difference between Jaskin/Rattie/Allen going back to the Sabres instead of Carrier in the trade

Yeah Miller's going to e putting up some crazy numbers for the rest of the season and the playoffs. St. Louis IMO just became the toughest team in the league to beat heading into the playoffs.

You can when you have a defenceman like J-bo. He was the highest D man being offered at the deadline.
You said 'guaranteed'. I never said guaranteed, I said it was imminent, meaning it was the starting piece going forward with the trade. If another team didn't have a 1st in play, then the trade wasn't going to happen. A la the trade with St. Louis.
Obviously a 1st was required in this trade as well.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
I'm told there aren't likely to be any more BUF moves tonite. I'd say BUF will try to flip Jaro Halak to MIN and Chris Stewart to OTT.

haven't read the thread, but my thoughts...
Great trade for St Louis - they are stacked now for a cup run
FOr Buffalo, lots of quantity, but how much quality?
Halak: meh
Stewart: if people thought he was lazy in StL, wait until they see him in Buffalo
1st in 15: probably 25-30th
don't know the prospect
I see it as a late 1st for Ott and a bunch of stuff for Millar.

Not sure why so many people think that more first rounders for Buffalo automatically means McDavid, the only one that can even put them into that conversation is their own first rounder. Absolutely no chance a team in the lottery will trade their 1st for anything Buffalo can offer.

read your dictionary definition. Imminent is about as close to guaranteed as it gets

Buffalo is doing a great job of accumulating a ton of picks.

now this makes the season real interesting, blues became a nightmare for any team. Even Iginla and Chara on the point will have a tough time

Hrmm makes sense.. I would imagine most people would be eager to get the same value for a 2014 pick as a 2015 pick. Big gap between the two drafts..

More importantly, how does this affect the Flames?
The fact that StL got Millar AND Ott really raises the bar, which I think ups the value of Cammalleri quite a bit
Also, (obviously) Ott is now off the market, which is also good news

Close is not guaranteed. A 1st was 'likely to occur at any moment' in either trade scenario.

Craig MacTavish @FakeOilersGM
If Ryan Miller and Steve Ott can net that kind of return, just think of what Ilya Bryzgalov and Ryan Jones can get us.

how can you claim something was likely to occur when you don't know what else was offered? We know of 2 offers, 1 with a 1st, 1 without. 50% is hardly "likely". But I am done derailing, you believe what you want

I really like this trade for Buffalo. Their GM has been making a lot of very smart hockey moves.

Because it was the asking price, and the bar that was set for the trade to move forward in both scenarios. Not my fault if your take on a definition is different that what is stated.
I'm done too. It's been fun.

If Buffalo is picking second and want Mcdavid that badly. That means the first overall team likely get Eichel plus an extra player in a deeper draft than this years. It really does give them a bit of an edge over the rest of the tems at this point.
