Meh, you've never met me but you're probably right about how I'd freak out if a bear charged me. That's why I'd like a gun...it would give me a chance, or at least make walking around the woods more enjoyable by not having to worry about bears.

I can't imagine what it would be like to be shot at or mortared. That sounds effed up man.

It's a slippery slope, for you to walk around in the wilderness with a gun in case of bears, to you being able to walk around the suburbs with a gun in case of dogs.

I agree. Some people just want to kill something.

I wonder what caliber his weapon is, Maybe a 357sig, 10mm, or maybe a 40cal. a 45 and 9mm doesn't seem like it would do the job to me.

I was with a friend when he hit a deer a few months ago and I put the deer down with my 9mm pistol. I shot it in the head at first and it didn't work so I put two in the heart. I couldn't stand seeing the poor animal suffer.

Well the moose did attack. I would of taken it out by tow rope showed a park ranger the tape and say " see what happened? Can I at least keep the meat? Moose sausage is the best fresh!"

No its not the same. Guns for bears . And Ironically bear spray for dogs ( dog pepper spray does not even stop a human). 2000 pound animal vs a 100 if its a big dog.

I think, given your posts in this thread, that you should probably do nature a favour and just stay out of the woods.

Please do not carry guns as a form of bear protection. An air horn will do you just fine.

Do you guys have venomous snakes up there?

I know I carry a mag of snake shot for my pistol in the spring/summer/fall if I cannot prevent an altercation with ours.

I do the same actually when I snowshoe. It works great especially in deep snow, which is where snow snakes love to hang out.

I don't shoot em unless I absolutely have to. Part of the ecosystem and they have their purpose but if it's me or him I'm choosing me

Totally, but more often than not the snow snake is extremely aggressive and it is very difficult to get out of a confrontation without shooting.

I know there are rattle snakes in Southern Alberta. They have their purpose but if the choice is between me and him I'm choosing... To remain calm, back away slowly and don't make threatening movements.

Walking backwards in snow shoes is extremely difficult.

I really had no idea that snakes were a danger in the snow. I guess it makes sense, it's not like they all die every winter or something. But I guess I figured they went under ground or something.
