That was terrifying to watch. I'm glad they are all ok. It's heartbreaking for them.

I'm at work and unable to watch. How did they crash?

Tough break that would have been a solid time. Glad they're okay!

I'm no expert but looked like they went in to a corner with their nose too high and turned over. Not the way you would expect - they flipped into the corner and then slid the rest of the way down the track. Watching their heads hit the walls was terrifying but they are all up and walking.

Bobsled crashes are definitely the scariest of them all.

Not sure if this deserves its own thread, but our speedskating team pursuit coach has called out Poland's team for sandbagging in the semi-finals (making them more rested for the bronze medal race against Canada).

Quote:
“That possibly could have helped the Polish guys but I don’t think it’s the way Olympics are supposed to be skated and raced,” said Schouten. “I think you’re here, you show up, you give it all you can. That’s what the Canadian guys did. They skated their hearts out even though they knew it would be very tough against the Koreans because they were three seconds faster, but you don’t give up. You don’t go to the Games to give away a race. You just don’t do that. That’s not the Canadian mentality. That’s not what we do.”

I'm not sure what to think of this. On one hand, I get that you want to give 100%. On the other hand, it feels like sour grapes from someone who got outcoached.

They probably won't show the race in its entirety if a Canadian isn't near the front of the field. For some reason CBC seems to be moving away from showing most events regardless of who is winning to primarily events Canadians are a factor in. Which is why they seemed to show barely any long track speed skating this year. I guess they expect people to watch certain events online, which is unfortunate for people like me who love sports like long track.
