February 22 General Thread
After a great day for Canada, Saturday will feature the last events in many sports.
I hurt my finger pretty bad moving tonight so I will keep this fairly brief today as typing is super uncomfortable.
[10:15 PM, 2:15 AM] Snowboarding - Ladies' and Men's Parallel Slalom: Lots of Canadians in the field for this. Our best chance is with Caroline Calve on the Ladies' side.
[2:30 AM] Cross-Country Skiing - Ladies' 30km Mass Start: Four Canadians in the pack.
[5:45 AM] Alpine Skiing - Men's Slalom: Canada has four competitors, none expected to medal.
[6:50 AM] Speedskating - Men's Team Pursuit: Canada will face off against Poland for the bronze medal.
[7:30 AM] Biathlon - Men's Relay 4x7.5km: Canada is one of 19 teams competing.
[8:00 AM] Hockey - Men's Bronze Medal Game: Finland will face USA for the bronze medal.
[9:30 AM] Bobsleigh - Four Man's Heats 1 & 2: The premiere bobsleigh competition begins. Canada will have to get past some tough German, American, and Russian sleds to get on the podium.

Tough first run for the Canadian women in the parallel slalom snowboarding. All three are going to be needing improved second runs to make it through to the round of 16. So far Lavigne is 12th fastest on the red course and Calve/Leeson are tied for 7th on the blue (which is slower so far).

I like the Giant Slalom better, this one seems too slow.

I think the difference is the steepness of the slope. This is more technical with more turns.

Slightly better from the men - Lambert 7th on the red course, Morison & Anderson 8 and 9 on the blue course. They'll also be right around the cutoff.

Anderson & Lambert squeeze through to the next round in 15th & 16th. Morison misses in 18th. All three women fail to qualify.

Sure. Alex Harvey has reached the podium a few times this season. He's had a terrible Olympics so far so it would be a bit surprising but possible.

That would indeed be a miracle, the way the Norwegians are dominating anything with cross-country skiis.

Sure on the women's side with Bjoergen, Oestberg and Johaug.
But for the men they haven't been as successful, especially with Petr Northug doing so badly last week.
Alex Harvey does really well during most World Cups and lead the Tour de Ski a couple of times. Ivan Babikov could also contend. Their real problem this Games has been wax related which can be corrected.
People focus so much on the gold medal hockey game on the final Sunday in Vancouver but I was much happier with Devon Kershaw being about 5 cm from the podium in the 50km race. Unfortunately I think Kershaw has the flu right now and won't ski. That's too bad.

2nd run of the four man bobsled has started. I'd think the Canadians need to come in under 55 seconds to have any hope of a medal tomorrow.
