I'm sure the Flames know the temperature of the fanbase wrt Stajan, esp with his comment that Stajan takes a lot of critisism because he was delt for a popular player, and BB's intention here was to show that there are many people outside of Calgary that think Stajan is a good player.
Overall, the interview was very candid. He was asked questions, he answered, and his answeres were honest and believable. No over promises or anything weird.

Ya. Other posters that responded to my post reminded me of some of the more outlandish comments Feaster made in his tenure. I was honing in on Burke's comment about Stajan. Having gone back and listened to Burke's comments that a friend had recorded - much different hearing them rather than reading them - and fairly minor compared to some of Feasters.
Consider my comments all but retracted.

Definitely. But my point is people are way too quick to pile on Feaster. I didn't like his double talk either, but he was far more astute than most give credit for. We had a couple of solid drafts on his watch, so let's give credit where due.

Those drafts have produced what ~70 games of NHL play, half of which came from a no brainer Monahan pick. May be a bit early to say solid drafts before guys start contributing.

Don't try to be reasonable. I gave credit to Feaster in another thread for his obviously good deals and people still tried to find ways to discount them. Just no pleasing some people when the team is losing IMO.

Feaster should not have that +1 Stanley Cup. We all know that the puck was in.
Second, reiterating what Moon said, we have no idea if Feaster's drafts were good or not.
Monahan was a no-brainer pick.
Bob Mack projected Sven as the 10th pick in 2011. Feaster took him at 13. Certainly not a genius pick.
Jankowski isn't looking to be the best draft choice either, especially because Mattaa fell so deep and was still on the board. Now Mattaa is looking like the better pick, but in 5 years... who knows?
Gilles, Gaudreau, etc. still have to play an NHL game before we realize what Feaster accomplished through the draft.
The reason his drafts look so amazing to Flames fans is because Sutter's were so terrible.

This year Burke has a guy who is averaging 0.57 PPG and has a career 1.0 PPG average in 32 playoff games and has a limited NTC. You have to think bare minimum a 1st and a prospect, given the terrible return that Feaster got for his forward last year.
Trade deadline is going to be mighty interesting this year, I can't wait to see what transpires.

There is a zero percent chance that anyone in the league looks at Iginla and Cammy as rentals at equal value. Iginla brings more to the table than Cammy even while declining.
That said Hanowski and Agostino's draft position doesn't mean much after they are drafted... they were middling guys who the Pens may not have signed.

Except 95% of the key pieces were already in place in Tampa. If you look at Feasters draft and trade history it is absolutely terrible.

Doesn't pass the sniff test for me... why would any team grant permission to the Sabres to interview but not the Flames? The Bruins are gonna give Benning permission to interview for the job with an in conference team but not an out of conference team? I doubt it.

I think it is due to the length it took the Sabres left the other teams in limbo not knowing if they will lose a key member of the staff. Don't want that to happen again.

Lafontaine doesn't have the experience to run a trade deadline etc. He needed a hire right away, and didn't have the luxury to wait for the right person in the off-season. That's the main difference between the 2 situations. As for Benning I've seen nothing that suggests he was even asked about yet.

It was Bob McKenzie that said no one might want to be granting permission after the Sabres search took so long:
Hope_Smoke@Hope_Smoke19m
Mckenzie "Burke will want to talk to Mike Futa and Brad Treliving. I don't know if teams at this time teams want to give permission"
Hope_Smoke@Hope_Smoke18m
McKenzie "the Buffalo process was so long and kept so many people in limbo that organizations may want to avoid granting permission"

It's also too early to declare them failures. Those drafts are 2 years old. It's a miracle they've produced that many games period. But I do think it's fair to say that the prevailing sentiment about those drafts, here and elsewhere, is optimistic.
The truth is, Flames prospects look good, and Feaster and Weisbrod have a lot to do with that. There's nothing outlandish, speculative or rosy about that statement. It's just the truth. Time will bear out reality, but compared to prior years, those drafts look decent at worst.

Anybody that believes 10 GM's called Burke to tell him he did good signing Stajan to that deal must also believe that Brian Burke never had any intention of firing Feaster and had no desire to become the GM of the Calgary Flames when he accepted the job of President of Hockey ops.
I'm also sure these same people will believe that if and when Burke finally does hire a GM, that newly hired GM will not simply be Brian Burkes puppet.
