I just seem to have the worst of luck with Paintball. Once in the balls, once in the face (paint is disgusting), once in the hand (had to get stitches as it tore open my finger), and lastly in the back. The one in the back stung for only about 3 seconds but when it hit me, I just collapsed. Weirdest thing ever, I was just lying on the ground but I couldn't move. Also had a welt about the size of a watermelon for a couple weeks.
I miss paintball, especially going in March/April where it's super muddy and you're sliding everywhere.

Wow, I got hit directly on the thumb today and there is no mark or anything. Stung for 30 seconds, but that's it.
No, I play airsoft instead and airsofters by nature seem to be anti-paintballers. I tried paintball once and I disliked it. If you've ever been paintballing (like at Bragg Creek Paintball, Weekend Warriors, etc.) and see a bunch of guys that seem to have realistic guns and gear and don't look like paintballers at all, those are airsofters.
Airsoft is (sort of) much cheaper than paintball (after the ridiculous initial investment) and you have much more flexibility and realistic game types and gear and locations (there was a game at an old CF Base recently). You also don't get disgusting paint all over you all the time but that can't be helped if you are playing airsoft on paintball fields. At CTF in Cochrane, 2000 paintballs will cost you $160-$190. 2000 Airsoft BBs costs less than $20! At Bragg Creek Paintball, $25 gets you the game fee, gun and gear rental, and 100 balls only. Balls are then $10 for another 100 balls! You blow through a buck every 10 shots! On full auto markers, that takes one second! If you are someone who likes to shoot, Paintball will eat through your wallet. Playing airsoft at Bragg Creek Paintball is $10 for the entire day and BBs are less than a cent each only and you can blow through thousands of rounds of ammo. You just need to bring everything yourself (guns, gear, ammo, etc).
I was playing inside a decomissioned hospital in Sask. just a few weeks ago at the beginning of August. Here are pictures from a game last summer up by Olds/Didsbury on the expanded land was outside the normal bounds of Weekend Warriors.
Here are some pictures from the quarry area outside the historic brick factory in Sask. that we played at in May. We played inside the factory too, which is actually a Canadian Heritage Site.
Location: Oklahoma - Where they call a puck a ball...

Here is a huge paintball event in Oklahoma .... Its a World War 2 game and people for all over the country come, i played a few years back and there people from Europe that came to play. Its a 3 day event or so and its a blast.
and the people who say the paintballs are breaking skin and leaving huge welts , this is prob because the idiot your playing with has not chrono'd his gun or just doesnt care. Your supposed to be below 300 FPS ..... I played a game once where a kid shot me in the calf from close range and it hurt pretty bad. We asked him to Chrono his gun and it was set at 475 FPS ... ass kicking did ensue .... LOL but for real i was bleeding and my calf i had a black bruise for 3 weeks

You guys are shooting eachother with platic BBs? I'm assuming you wear full face masks when doing so. Also do these things hurt? Are you pulling BBS out of your skin with tweaser after a game?
I think I'm going to check out a shooting range and fire some real guns.
The fun in any recreational shooting game like paintball or airsoft is being able to shoot at your buddies while they can shoot back at you. You can't do that with real guns.

Holy thread resurrection Batman!
Eye protection is mandatory. Any other protection including face masks is up to you. Many people chose not to wear any or travel light. The more protection, the less it hurts and the safer you are, just like paintball. People seem to avoid full facemasks like in paintball for realism and because it interferes with real rifle sights and scopes which they use. As you can see in those pictures, nobody is wearing a mask. It doesn't mean you can't though.
I've seen BB's lodged in skin and teeth shot out before but it generally doesn't happen. Just light bruising.
In Canada anything shooting at or over 500 feet per second is considered a firearm. Many guns will fire in the 400's in outdoor games and therefore the range is much further and more accurate than paintball also. There are indoor games where the safety limit is much lower because of the close quarters.
I went with friends when I was teenager. When I ran out of paintballs I decided to just run around and let them try to hit me (they were girls, I figured I had the odds). So I successfully dodge them for about 20 shots, but then I get a "great" idea. I'm going to Van Damme them by running between them, diving out of the way and then they end up shooting each other.
It almost worked. I did the dive (gracefully and manly I might add) and was almost in the clear until I took one paintball not one inch from my bag. It almost looked like a bullseye when the dust settled. Bright bright red with a totally white dot right in the middle. It was pretty close range, so I can't help but think it would have totally left me one wingman down had I moved 1 inch in the wrong direction.
Are people who play Airsoft as big of d-bags as people who bring their own paintball gear?
I went a year ago and went to sit down on a log after a game, when I went to sit down some guy comes running at me "HEY WATCH OUT WATCH IT!! GET UP!! MOVE". I stop and get up and the guy starts yelling at me "watch where your f***ing sitting, you almost sat on my gun. It costs more than you could afford." He said some other crap too but I just walked away.
First of all, I saw your gun and I went to sit next to it as that was the only part with no paint. Second of all, unless you're gun costs $12,000, yes I can afford to replace it. And thirdly, you're a phag if you spent over $1000 on a gun and I'm killing you every game.
I've played a few times. My brother ran a small field out in Ontario that I gamed on. I liked it well enough (Played some CTF, Defend the Fort, etc), but find that I tend to prefer LaserTag style games.

Yeah definitely hate the d-bags with guns who act hardcore when playing with the rental people. I go to paintball once every few years and there are always some of thse peopel around.
The worst part is they are usually out of shape and horrible at actually playing paintball. But man can they camp behind a log and fire sooped up guns at long range at people who have no hope of hitting them with totally inacurrate guns.
I used to play on a team way back, and yes I had a $1000+ paintball marker. But I nor my team ever played with walk-ons because it wasn't competitive enough, and we usually had enough of our regular guys to play with. But we did get way better prices on paint due to the amounts we were shooting.
If I ever did play with less experienced guys I usually switched to a pump gun to balance things out.
And if someone ever would've sat on my marker I would've lost it on them...

So its pretty real to life right?
Can you capture enemy soldiers and cut their fingers off to get information?

I went to the outdoor place in Cochrane. With all the hardcore players, the weirdos and the all-you-can-eat hot dogs on a nasty grill, I just couldn't get into the vibe.
Such a classy place. I saw one of the employees there trying to buy crack off a couple of teens out by Dalhousie station last summer. When that failed, he tried to entice them to come out to the place with free coupons for paintball. Edit: he even mentioned the free hotdogs, which I though was funny when I saw it mentioned in this thread.

My 12 year old loves to go to the one in Cochrane. That place is pure chaos - getting the gear handed out is total anarchy. The paint balls are an absolute money pit. Some kids can't help firing a shot every second they are on the field. The grill is loaded with frozen hot dogs, to go with the moldy buns.
But he loves it!

My brother in law is a Airsoft guy, and a couple years ago pulled his goggles out an inch from his face for them to defog and he got hit, and it deflected straight into his eye. He ended up ok, but man his wife was pissed.
I couldn't even imagine how much money he has sunk into gear though. He easily had a dozen or more rifles etc, plus all the combat accessories you could think of. I know he sold some off to go to some competition in the US a while back, so not sure what he has left at this point. I know he is currently selling a shotgun for $450, so obviously he still has some extra.
edit: just realized this is like a 3 year old post that I responded to ... love the necro
