best case scenario

1 year extension, Stajan has a good year and we add a 2015 pick which is said to be a deeper draft.

2014-15 flames centers
Backlund
Monahan
Stajan
Knight

Colborne moves to wing. No one available in free agency or coming though the pipeline will be better than stajan, and he wants to be here, so he stays.

People sure hold onto irrational hate for players for a long time. He disappointed as a centrepiece in the Phaneuf trade, but he hasn't been a disappointing player in over a year and a half. If he got a face transplant and a name change before the 2012/2013 seson people would like him.

Backlund, Colborne, Monahan and Stajan are all best suited for top-9 duty. Something has to give here.

I think Colborne is being moved to the wing and players like Stempniak, Cammalleri and D. Jones are likely to be on their way out.

Byron-Monahan-Colborne

Why can't Colborne play on the 4th line? They basically said they wanted him to be David Steckl when he was acquired... that's pretty much 4th line centre personified.

Maybe a request can be put in to the league stating that " how can we buy him out if he's invisible ?"

I could see a scenario where we take on a bigger contract in a swap for Jones.

I won't count on it but I don't think its out of the realm of possibility...

He can. I agree.

But I think that 4th line is going to be a 5 min a night fighting/checking line.

Colborne is more of a board battles and finnese type, despite his size.

Doubt there is much market for a guy who is in and out of the lineup on the worst team in the league.

That he was pretty good for the better part of a calendar year and David Backes took out his knee.

Stajan has been buried this year as well.

35% Offensive Zone Start means he has been relied upon to take pretty much all of our defensive zone faceoffs.

He has struggled overall but at least part of that is due to how much he has been relied upon to be a defensive center while sheltering Monahan.

Stajan is a perfect #3 centre. Realistically if we get rid of everyone that CP wants to, we're going to be severely under the cap for next year, and the only way to be over the cap would be by grossly overpaying a bunch of free agents (Face it, free agents aren't throwing themselves to come to Calgary during the beginning of a rebuild), and screwing ourselves in the future. If Stajan wants to stay here and can be signed for a reasonable amount in a short-term deal - this works out well for all parties.

I suppose the benefits of keeping him outweigh the benefits of dealing him. We need at least a couple veteran forwards around that can log icetime and play both ends...
