Stajan was playing well until Backes kneed him. Hasn't been the same since. A healthy Stajan is worth keeping

Don't see too much wrong with it. Better to have a vet going against the opponents top lines then throwing the rookies to the wolves.

I'd rather see any combination of these 4 players in the lineup over Stajan.
If anyone of those players that can't "earn" a spot over Stajan...........then you shouldn't worry about whether they are getting enough playing time.

I actually don't mind this.

If it's in the neighbourhood of 3yrs @ $2.5M, I'm happy.

Hopefully not 4 years, and hopefully no more than $3M.

No, it's worse than people are making it out to be.This is an Oiler style move, not a Flames move.

A week ago he was finally on the 4th line where he belonged.

This guy has proven himself to be NOT a winner. I don't want guys who are perennial losers to be mentoring my young players.

Backlund is not a goner; he's been the best player on the team for the past month, and he's finally starting to develop. Now is not the time to give up on him, it's the time patience is rewarded.

I'll believe it when it's confirmed. Seems just so odd.

I thought we all agreed Feaster was an idiot who talked out of both sides of his mouth and managed to, in three years, construct the worst Flames team ever assembled?

This signing clearly has truculence written all over it. After the Saturdays game its clear that Burke thinks the team needs to load up on bigger and tougher guys,,, best to lock them up now

And Stajan has been the worst, so if he gets this extension, what does that say?

He is just way to easy to play against, was hoping his time was coming to an end in Calgary.

Because the trade deadline is fast approaching. If the team wants to re-sign him, now is the time. If Stajan wanted to leave, then you find out now and maximize the time to trade if it comes to that.

As to the signing, I'm ok with this. It's easy to complain that he's looked bad for the past month - since Backes took his knee out, btw - but everybody on this team has looked poor. I'm not going to use confirmation bias as an excuse to slag the guy.

Please be a sign-and-trade deal!

Burke is happy to keep him around just to remind us of what a fleecing that Phaneuf trade was.

I don't dissagree, but you are incorrectly identifying the problem. The problem is not "we aren't inserting enough young talent" by choice, we aren't inserting enough young talent, because as you point out, we don't have enough.

Having Horak "plug" a role during this rebuild is not a positive thing. He's simply not good enough, and being excited because we have him in the line up simply because he's young is silly. We need to acquire more young talent that pushes the crappy vets we have on this team out of jobs. Playing young players who aren't good enough to do that doesn't help our rebuild, in fact it hurts it because it lowers the quality of team mates our few good prospects (like Monahan and Brodie) have to play with and learn from.

I love this. Stajan is my favorite Flame. Dude puts himself in the way of serious harm night in and night out to make plays, and is an effective two-way center.

Touche about Feaster.

Timing of this is just odd, however. It's almost like Darryl quickly reupping him after the Phaneuf trade. What's the hurry?
