Flames The Value of the Calgary Flames

Despite being the 3rd smallest market in the NHL, the Calgary Flames are number 11 on Forbes' list of NHL valuations. Below, you can see how the valuation breaks down at a glance. The full breakdown can be viewed @ http://www.forbes.com/teams/calgary-flames/ for the Flames, and for all other NHL teams.

Is that a testament to the general affluence of the people in Calgary? Loyalty to a sports franchise?

The cup run 10 years ago rekindled interest from the city, but even then I'm still surprised by the average attendance & frequent sell-outs. People just like their hockey these days & can afford to go. Hopefully that leads to another championship one day. God knows we deserve it.

Do you really think a link from 3 months ago is "news" to this site?

Hard to believe that we're the third smallest market. I thought there were more in the league with less than our 1.2 million. Then again, I guess it's 'metro area' population.

To be fair, he also stated in another thread that Drouin was having a great season with the Lightning.

In the NHL, market size doesn't mean much. L.A is a huge market, but their revenue streams are small.

You seem to get an odd feeling of satisfaction in calling out others on reposts... be it threads, pictures, or videos.

I'm sure just posting the above link would have got your point across. But I suppose without the dick remark preceding the link, you'd have nothing to stroke it to later.

Without thinking too, too hard about this. Edmonton is smaller, Winnipeg is smaller, Columbus is smaller, Ottawa (very close), Anaheim...

And this is why posters don't start new thread around this place. What a joke.

It was new to me and I appreciate the attempt at a new thread.

Didn't know I put the new thread as 'news'. Also, I don't have time to troll the boards going through 3 months worth of threads.

I have a life.

To be fair, if you actually read below that statement, there's a /sarcasm and a cute little roll eyes smiley to go with it...

No wonder this place has such a hard time attracting new posters...

So what does the new arena bring us to, 600? Or do we start creeping towards the 700 range?

I think by the time the rebuild is around where it should be, the new arena will be ready and it should be a fun time! I could be wrong but, that's how I see it progressing. Ultimately it would be nice for the rebuild to be complete by then but you never know. Depending on how long Burke is at the helm it could be sooner.

the Pens opened their new building in 2010. They didn't seem to get much of a bump in value from it; there was an increase from 2009 to 2010 of about 5.5%

The Devils opened their new building in 2007 - that coincided with an increase in valuation of ~25%

The new CBA and TV deals seem to have had a much more substantial effect across the league

New members shouldn't get an automatic pass for being allergic to using the very efficient search function of CP.

It came up straight and true... Much like my member.

Yeah they are incorrect. Going by metropolitan population, Calgary is the sixth smallest market. Edmonton, Winnipeg, Buffalo, Ottawa, and Carolina are lower than us.
