If true it is a huge problem.

It is, and shows why he shouldn't be in the NHL; it's a man's league. Sven needs to toughen up and become stronger if he's ever gonna be an effective player.

I think we should give it a few more weeks before we panic for Sven lack of success in the AHL. First 4 games he had nothing and was minus 2. Last 4 2 goals 1 assist and minus 1. Hopefully he has 2 good games this weekend. He more than likely gets called back up when we sell half the team in the next month or 2

I don't disagree. But my question is this; who is the better coach? If you're trying to develop Sven as a player does it not stand to reason he should be coached by the best coach you have available? If Troy Ward is a better coach that he should be in Calgary.
It's hard for me to understand how you can develop an already NHL caliber player by sending him to the minors. When all the best resources are available on the NHL club. It seems old school punitive to send someone down like that. And I'm not sure that these kinds of tactics work anymore in the NHL.
Initially I was drawing the comparison to Kadri in Toronto but I'm not sure that that applies anymore. Because of the different nature of the teams. Toronto didn't need Kadri as badly as Calgary needs Sven right now. Calgary has virtually zero offense at the moment.

It should be what he needs, not what the flames need. He's what, going to make us a marginally not so horrifically bad team? Does that help the flames? No. With that he'll have poor production, get beat up on, coach might be mean to him (in jest) and he'll get sad. Or, play 20+ a night in the AHL and remember what used to make him a good player.

I think we are agreeing. IMO he gets what he needs form the best coaches the Flames have, which should be with the big club.
Also, if Hartley got with the times and rolled four good lines rather than having a 4 minute knuckle duster line every game, then kids could learn of the 3rd and 4th lines and get enough minutes to develop.

Wow you should apply to be gm! Roll 4 young soft lines so our prospects can get crushed and beat down like the ones up north? He wasn't cutting it as an NHL player so he got sent down, when he looks like he's ready to make the jump again he will.

Amazing that every single other person on the Heat is doing so much exceptionally well, but not Sven.
No injuries there, no personal changes. Everything is smooth sailing there right now and he is the only one not performing.

On a side note from the Heat, apparently they're offering free cupcakes to get people in the building.
I'd go to Abbotsford for free cupcakes.

Darn, I had no idea Baertschi has been playing so poorly down in Abbotsford. That's incredibly disappointing that this is his response to being demoted.

Apparently the heat aren't much of a draw. Hopefully the heat move to Airdrie one day.

A Calgary Flames farm team 1 hour away from the city of Vancouver... who would've thought?!

It's a great deal for the Flames which is all that counts as far as I'm concerned.

The Heat are scoring about as much as the Flames these days. Can't be getting too worked up about his numbers. When your whole team isn't going, its tough for you to come up with all the offense.

Sven needs this season to build his character and fight adversity. He is learning that not everything will come easy. There are hurdles he must jump to get into the best league in the world.
His mother told him something to that effect when he was demoted the first time. He is fighting confidence issues.
You need to give him next season to prove himself before his ELC expires before you even consider moving him or labeling him a bust.
Young players have ups and downs in their carrers, especially at the beginning.
We are rebuilding, giving up on a high potential scoring forward when he is 21 would be an epic mistake.

In what arena would they play? Until Airdrie antes up for a new 5,000 - 10,000 seat stadium (which Fort McMurray is currently doing), there is no chance any professional team moves to Airdrie - especially and AHL franchise. Think about getting the WHL in there first before anything.
I don't see Airdrie getting an NHL-quality arena any time soon.
