No...it is their biggest fish to fry. Hopefully, they obtain maximum value for each traded player.

Right now, stay the course and hopefully be 29th or 30th by the end of season and hope to get the #1 overall pick. No use in trying to improve when this team is on a rebuild. Definitely get as many decent draft picks from the vets that they can trade away before the trade deadline. I'm not too worried about this team tanking for the next couple of years as long as this rebuild gets at least one franchise player during the rebuild. That franchise player hopefully comes with McDavid in 2015 draft.
People are starting to see the true meaning of suck when two franchise players are no longer part of the team. People also forget how long it takes for a rebuild to take place. If Flames are lucky, maybe in 5 years. If they keep drafting like they did in the past, we won't even see this franchise in town in about 10 years.

Yeah but the leafs made the playoffs and got punted in the first round after 7 seasons of failure. Burke is still running on pr and riding the coattails of a cup winner that mainly Bob Murray built, 8 seasons ago. Phil Kessel isn't as good as Iginla is or was.

1) Look to trade Cammy, even ahead of "schedule". How much can his value increase over the next month or two with the olympic break thrown in? Surely not much, not with the team struggling the way it is. Burke needs to consider this move as a possibility sooner or later.
2) Look to ship fringe vets like Galliardi, Stempniak. They're not doing anything here and, like Cammy, aren't likely to garner much value for the short period between now and trade deadline. Not expecting much value in return, but we should do this simply for the sake of making space on this roster for young deserving players to get their callup and give the team a boost in effort and energy.
3) Create a rotating door, bringing up Ferland, Granlund, Knight, Hanowski, Sieloff, Wotherspoon one after another to fill in the bottom 6 / bottom pairing and show what they've got. They could not possibly do worse than what we've received from these lacklustre vets on the current roster. It worked for us last spring, it can again. (at least to give us a better on ice product. I'm sure it won't affect our drafting position)

Wait.....what?
There is absolutely nothing more important for this team right now than the return on trades that ARE going to occur.
After that, then what they do draft day.
No idea what you believe could be more important?

The patience card is overplayed.
If people can disconnect or rationalize things thats great, I am not knocking it, but no one is obliged to.
Why the team is crap is not the fans problem. Maybe it's because they waited too long to change the team. Maybe it's because they are too lazy and greedy to take the hard road over the easy one. Heck maybe it's because the guy they fired just plain fataed the whole thing up. So what. The product is still crap.
If the flames think dissatisfaction is a fan problem to solve not an organizational one then they are flirting with disaster.

Trade values are always higher as the TD closes in....on top of which there is a trade freeze during the Olys so Burke and his brethern will have that time to swing deals...and in Burkes case hopefully start teams bidding against one another for whomever is getting dealt.
As for Hartley i dont think the team has tuned him out at all....but even if they have, again, firing him now makes no sense. This teams next coach is not likely available til the season ends/summer anyhow, so forcing them to learn a whole new system this year only to have it change once again come September is almost counter productive.
Its a rebuild....complete and total. Those rarely are anything but ugly and now that the reality of it is showing, people want changes. There really is nothing to change right now that will make the difference people want to see.

I don't mean settling into Calgary, I mean teams around the league in general probably see an advantage/premium to get a guy (rentals or not) in a week before the Olympics, meaning an extra 4 or 5 games, but an extra calender month of real time getting to know teammates, etc. And I meant specifically for teams scooping up some Flames, particularly Cammalleri.
There won't be the new long term full time coach until the new GM is picked at earliest, but how much rope can a coach get with the way they are playing now? Another month? It's not the "5-2 Ok effort, just out skilled" , seen the first couple months (and what I personally am fine with as a rebuilding team and plan) , it's almost two weeks of the worst hockey seen in 12+ years with beyond putrid offense and a team that looks to now playing out the string. Throw in the Brian Burke potential impaitent-ness factor of getting licked at home and on the road it's not shocking to think Hartley doesn't last until mid April if things don't take even a slight uptick here in the next while.

If Burke can hustle a team by trading Stajan twice I might become a believer. I think he will be forced to let vets walk, hopefully he doesn't go after another Komisarek type player to bolster the d corps

Who replaces him?
Just dont see any way he is let go before the end of the season.
The team is in a nasty funk right now...this isnt going to last the rest of the year. He will be safe just based on the previous 3 months...the last 2 weeks arent going to get him fired.
That being said if the club continues down this road for another couple weeks...then yes the whole staff will be gonzo.

It'd a rebuild, this is what it looks like. Do nothing until the time to make a good move arises.

Calgary needs to rely on drafting from where they sit in the standings more than they do mulling over what fans think their "lazy vets" should return in a trade. The last goalie who they called up from their own farm team who made any noise is Vernon. Calgary needs someone to come up tomorrow and make a difference. As I said, if Burke can sell ice to Eskimos, I'll believe. Nobody wants Stajan, Jones, Butler, etc.

Ftorek from Abby as interim coach? Dunno.
I don't think letting Hartley go is what the plan is, but we agree that if things look this bad by the end of January, can't see the patience holding up, or that the morale of the players in the organization (who have pride, and like Monahan you don't want to have a toxic atmosphere if you can help it) is at a level that Hartley can revive/further teach/help at that point.

I'd like the flames to play the kids way more minutes. Best way to do this IMO is to roll 4 real lines, sorry to the goons.
Another good defence man would be nice to acquire unless Billins can step in now.
I'd bench liberally though if guys are not sticking to the plan.
Objective would be just to get them competitive. I still think they would finish bottom three, but it would be fun to watch.
