The Esks and Stamps have asked the league to move the labour day rematch game back one more day to the Saturday. Waiting to hear back from the league.

I always thought the short week was one of the intriuging aspects of the Calgary/Edmonton back-to-back; probably safer for the players though to get that extra day of rest/preparation.

FINALLY! I have been wanting this to happen for years. While I agree the short week made it interesting, I found the game usually suffered because of the lack of rest. The bigger reason for me is I think more Calgary fans (myself included), would now make the trip north. Working on Friday has always prevented me from making the trek up north. Would love to be able to do the double header this year!

I'm not sure if its covered in this, or other CFL threads but...

Wont the whole 3 full days rest problem become a lot more common now that we are back to the 9 team schedule? Playing on a Monday followed by a Friday was more normal back when there were 9 teams. As well as mid-week games.

I think Calgary, Edmonton, and all of the CFL teams will be playing in these brutal short weeks all year long, even if they do get this one game pushed back.

The alternative is giving a team a bye each week, which means everyone will get 3 byes and the season goes into mid-December, which sucks even more.

This, above all other reasons, is why I think the CFL needs to push for a tenth team regardless of whether or not a market is ready. They should be expanding in pairs.

Adding a 10th team just to resolve some potential scheduling issues? Bad idea in a league where teams can and will fold if the right infrastructure isn't in place.

Besides it's easy enough to schedule a game on Saturday or Sunday instead of on Monday (aside from Labour Day), thus avoiding the short week if the next game is on Thursday or Friday.

Good move for them getting him signed to an extension, one of my favorite players.

I know that it sounds like an exaggeration, but I really do believe that the 9 team schedule is a bigger problem than that.

With 9 teams you cant simply have the teams that played on a Sunday play the following Thursday. Because one of those teams will have to play again that weekend.

That's the crappy part of having a 9 team schedule. The only solutions are a) giving a team a bye every week, and therefore making the season 21 weeks long. b) having at least one Tues/Wed/Thurs game each week.

The first solution is poor because people will lose interest if the season goes longer. There will be common 3 week gaps between home games and it makes it harder for fans to follow. IIRC there were many posts in the 2013 CFL thread talking about how the season needs to be shorter/end earlier for many good reasons. So the CFL wont do this.

And the latter solution will have all kinds of teams playing on 3 and 4 full days rest, which I believe there will be a lot of this year (and for forever until there is a 10th team, or a team folds.) So even if there isn't a Labour day Rematch on 3 days rest, every team will still be seeing these super short turnarounds.

Tues/Wed games will have worse TV viewer ratings, and as a season ticket holder this sucks to have mid-week games especially after Labour Day (brrrrrr).

Maybe I am missing something simple, but no matter how I lay it out in my mind the 9 game schedule has huge disadvantages, and I remember hating it the last time we had 9 teams. And while it may seem like hyperbole, there has to be some value for the other 9 teams to help prop up a tenth team just to avoid this.

^^^^ Wiki has it:

The CFL's nine current teams are divided into two divisions: the East Division with four teams and the West Division, with five teams. Each team plays three games against two teams in its own division, and two games against the other six teams on a rotating basis. With 81 regular season games being played, each team gets two bye weeks except for one team that plays two games in one week and receives three bye weeks.

Am told former #Argos WR Dontrelle Inman has signed with the San Diego Chargers. Inman got his #CFL release last month to pursue a NFL shot.

Terrell Maze has re-signed with the Riders. Most people might have no clue who he is but IMO he would have been one of the most sough after free agents on the market. Again IMO he is one of the best shutdown DB's in the league.

The Tabbies have released Dave Stala this morning as well.

I assume they will at some point?

#Ticats coach Kent Austin says there have been no talks with pending free agent QB Henry Burris.

Not that it really means anything (I know he lives here in the offseason), but I saw him at the Saddledome tonight, haha. He was up in the bar that is in between the 2nd and 3rd bowl.

Kinda wish I went and shook his hand, but another guy had just walked up a few seconds before haha.

After reading that whole quote from Austin I'll do a quick summary because there is more to it than just from that quote above. Austin basically said he is still trying to figure out his SMS and basic roster before talking to Burris about a contract and would be talking to him when he has made some roster and SMS decisions. Austin, also said he hasn't talked with anyone about contracts and wouldn't until he has a clearer picture of what his roster would look like.

Montreal has signed Dave Stala to a 2-year deal after he was released yesterday by Hamilton. Not a bad spot for him. They don't have much for have much for NI receivers.

Default Anthony Calvillo to retire?

Quote:
Quarterback Anthony Calvillo will make a long-awaited announcement next week regarding his future with the Montreal Alouettes.

The team has scheduled a news conference for next Tuesday at a downtown hotel, at which time Calvillo will "provide an update on his playing career."

President Mark Weightman and coach/GM Jim Popp are also to attend the announcement.

Calvillo, 41, is expected to retire after 19 seasons in which he set all-time CFL records for passing yards, completions and TDs. He missed the second half of the 2013 campaign with a concussion.
