I agree Bouma has helped the Flames, but I don't think anyone doubted Burke's resolve to get bigger and tougher. 4th line is the easiest place to start.
I think Bouma is plenty big and tough enough and his ability to play more than 5 minutes a night and throw effective hits will make us a harder team to play against but I guess we will see.
Would much rather see Galiardi or Byron sitting and Bouma move up in the line-up if Westgarth is added to the 4th line.

This guy has to stay up with the flames?? BLAH yet another ruined opportunity to bring the young guys up.
Unless, like he does in Carolina, he sits in the PB for the majority of the time and this prevents bringing up a guy like Granlund only to have him watch the games while he is here.
This move shouldn't, not guaranteed it won't, affect the young guys in Abbotsford for the most part as Westgarth should just be a PB/fill in guy rotating with 4th line grinders.
Maybe this trade was a bit of a favour to Nemisz, who put in his time with the organization, seemed like a good guy but was never going to play for the Flames in any sort of regular role. He's not NHL calibre, too bad, but at least now he has a chance to prove himself with another outfit.
Bouma is the kind of 4th line guy you actually keep in the lineup if your team makes the playoffs. Westgarth and McGrattan are not.
The Flames missed that kind of player after we lost Yelle.
Yup. Not sure why the NHL still thinks you need 230 pound beasts that can't skate and can barely play hockey. It is just a matter of time (and not much time) until the NHL makes these guys obsolete. A simple rule change like 5 fights or more on the season results in automatic suspensions would do the trick.
Its embarrassing that as a sport we have players that are employed simply to fight other guys that are employed to fight. Incidents like the Thornton attack will force the NHL's hands. The writing is on the wall and not tough to read. Meanwhile we are collecting these relics. We may not be able to win too many hockey games, but run into us in a bar and we will KICK YOUR ASS!
As for the 'we need these guys to protect our stars' myth. It is just that, a myth. Besides, the best nuclear deterrent is not to have nuclear weapons. NO NUKES. NO NUKES.
The Coyotes only have 9 majors this year (5th fewest in the league), and are 3-2-5 in their last 10, currently in the final playoff spot in the West. BizNasty only has 1 fight this year. Chipchura has had their most fights, but he hasn't done well in them (according to the ratings on HockeyFights.com).
Could the Yotes be looking to add McGrattan to add some beef to their roster? They're also weak down the left side, so Cammalleri would bolster their offence too.
I'm predicting a McGrattan and Cammalleri to Phoenix deal by the end of the week. No idea what would be coming back.

Hrmm, well I figured one 6'4" 235lb, 5 minute per night goon was more than enough, but now we have two of them?
Losing Nemisz, not too big of a deal I don't think, he had obviously been passed by numerous younger and better players in Abbotsford, and was just a depth guy for the most part down there. They've survived the loss of better players, like Jones, Horak and Byron so they should be fine IMO. Chemistry can be a funny thing though.....guess we will see.
Wish Greg all the luck in the world with his new organization.
Meh. Nemisz was going nowhere with this orginization. My gut feeling is that we are going to be seing some veterans sent packing for picks sooner than later. There is not going to be much left other than a lot of youngsters. Burke is just making sure that they don't get taken advantage of for the rest of the year.
Don't worry about Bouma. I got a feeling he is going to be a regular 3rd liner for the rest of the season once we start trading some veterans.
