Just had two days up in Revy, the top was great, North bowl with some boot deep powder, plus it was dumping pretty good all yesterday. Lower reaches of the hill is still pretty crap though, just took last spike down at the end of the day cause the rest still has exposed trees and rocks all over the place.

Going to Banff tomorrow with the family. I'm a confident skier but am guiding my wife who only Skis green runs, a ten year old who can handle easy blacks and an eight year old who isn't ready for anything more than blue. I'm thinking Louise is the best choice all around but would rather drive to Norquay (I've never skied there) or Sunshine.
Any thoughts?

In my opinion teaching others to ski Sunshine is the best. The main run down Louise always gets brutally icy, even just having to link up to it from blacks is bad enough, let alone skiing it all day as a beginner.
Sunshine has much more forgiving snow/terrain, and IMO besides Goat's eye is more of a beginner's mountain.

I hope all of you skiing on the Alberta slopes and in eastern British Columbia and the interior have a great time over New Year's. Here on the west coast, conditions are not great with no snow or a lack of it. No skiing on Mt. Washington or Mt. Cain here on Vancouver Island.

Spent a couple days at Kicking Horse. It was pretty good everywhere up top. Rumor has it today and tomorrow they are supposed to get some serious snow. Alot of small rocks closer to the bottom of the hill from the beginners shaving the hill bare . Does anybody know where to get a small base gouge repaired properly?

I spent a couple days in Revy and the conditions were incredible. Greely and North Bowl were both knee deep both days I was there. As someone said the bottom wasn't great but we were able to ride all the way down and the coverage was decent.

Spent 2 days down at Castle mountain. Wasn't anything special...until I went on the ''Nightrider'' run off the Huckleberry chair. What an awesome run that is. Deep powder all through the trees. The main runs weren't anything to special. Lots of rocks sticking out and not a lot of snow lately. It did start to dump on the last afternoon we were there. But I hope it gets a lot more powder soon.

Has anyone been to Louise lately?
I see they haven't opened Rock Garden yet, I usually do most of my skiing off of Larch, so am somewhat concerned about the conditions.

Well they just got 22cm in the last 12 hours, so that might do it. But no, last time I was there just before Xmas, the whole Larch side was best avoided. Thin everywhere, but VERY thin there.

Spent the day at Sunshine yesterday. Pretty decent conditions, other then a few rocks sticking out. Some decent powder in some areas. But it didn't seem like they got hit by the huge snow storm that hit us over the weekend which was pretty unfortunate.
Some of the blacks on Goat's eye were still shut down. Of course parking there was a gong show. For all the positive reviews Sunshine gets, I find it to be less enjoyable then other hills I frequent. Way too many flat areas and it just doesn't seem to have the long epic runs that other hills have. But all in all a great day.

Not worth a trip, if you're thinking of driving up there.

I was there over New Years. I'd give the conditions a 6/10. There is decent coverage in some areas, but it's pretty thin in some spots. I believe they got a pretty big dump on the 4th.
I like the terrain there, but I also have some nostalgia attached to the place as that is where I learned to ski/board. Jasper is a much toned down version of Banff. Much quieter and way less commercial.
As 19Yzerman19 says, for a 5 hr drive from Calgary there are way better resorts to hit up.

One of my 2 or 3 favourite places to ski. As already mentioned, love the terrain and generally not nearly as busy as Sunshine/Louise. Too far for a day trip but well worth a long weekend stay IMO.

Just got back from skiing for the first time in 20 years. Hit up Norquay as they were having their $2 lift ticket day. Had a pretty good day all around, and I still remember what to do. Was up to the more advanced blues by the end of the day. Gonna have to ski more frequently.
