I have two kids six and nine that have skied a few times but want to ski more. Where is a good place to get the three of us skis. Don't want to spend a fortune. I am an ok skier but not a great skier.

I think he's asking where to BUY skis, and the answer is usually second hand... kijiji or ski swaps (missed those this year). Or Sport Chek when they have sales, if you can wait until boxing day you'll save some money.

FYI, it actually opens tomorrow for a sneak peek weekend. 3 lifts.

What's the best place in south Calgary for tuning skis? I want to get a full base grind and wax to start the season

Spent the weekend in Whitefish. Best December conditions I've skied. It was so much fun. Every run was open, including hell roaring. Tons of snow. The locals have been skinning up for over a month. For $50 a day, you won't get better.

Getting out for the first time this coming weekend to Revelstoke for 3 days, starting to get excited. Just remembered how awesome Spring me was, I got my skis tuned up after my last day of the year, so I'll have my skis in perfect condition for me. Love that I was proactive for once.

I'd like to go on my first snowboarding trip of the season this weekend. We're thinking of going to Sunshine or Lake Louise. At the end of last season I bought a new snowboard that I've yet had the chance to use. Would it be okay to bring that board out this weekend or should I stick with my old one that hasn't been stored in a bag in the off-season (if that matters) or serviced since last January (first board purchase). This will be my second year snowboarding so I'm not going to be doing any over-the-top runs.

Toured out to Healy Pass yesterday. On top of a ridge over fairly low angle slope, huge whumpf. Whole basal layer failed, sounded like a cannon. Rating is considerable in the alpine but in those areas it's bordering on high. Pay attention if you're going out there...

I'm heading out to Louise tomorrow and conditions look pretty decent for this time of year. Some others have told me that Sunshine is pretty good now.

I bought new skis this summer and hope to use them tomorrow, but I will use my old ones if conditions aren't prime yet. Does anyone who has been to Louise have any suggestions?

Can anyone who has been to Revy comment on their conditions? I would assum that with 360cm already it's pretty good but just curious what the coverage is like down at the bottom.

Thanks

I've heard some great things about sunshine, their snow report looks great and I was talking to some who was raving about their late november powder day (!) there.

I was at Louise on the weekend and it was not so hot, they are below average on snowfall and have had a lot of wind. There was a lot of good (not great) snow to be found, but it was the most exposed rock I've ever seen there.

Just came back from Louise and what a blast! The World Cup was being broadcast and some of those guys are just insane. Conditions weren't as bad as I was expecting. Some rocks here and there, but for the most part it was alright conditions. Not too much powder, and some ice here and there. But overall a fun day.

Anyone know if any Costco's in Calgary have the Sunshine or Lake Louise Ski passes still available? Thanks

Meh, I was also there sunday and it was pretty ugly in a lot of spots. Avoid Larch like the plague, and hunting for stashes in the trees will find you more branches and rocks than snow. Basically a day of cruising chop under the sun, which isn't so bad. Weather was beautiful.
