The way I see it is the team is a long way from developing into a contender because too many guys are out of the prime years, we really don't have many 23-30 year old point producers and won't for a while so I think in the mean time we should be playing guys like Kanzig while the Monahan's and Baertschi's develop. Ideally Monahan can skate around and work on his game while the other team is scared ####less of getting destroyed by guys like Kanzig and Breen so they leave Monahan alone. It disappointed me the other night that nobody smeared Marchand across the boards, we can't let anyone take cheapshots at our bluechips

Who knows, maybe he can develop into something good, all he's really gotta do is know how to clear the puck, make the first pass and clear out the front of the net. If he tries to develop those skills specifically he should have time to become useful. We really have a few years so if he just practices a skillset for a specific role there's no reason he shouldn't be able to play in the NHL.

Was just a little joke, I haven't been overly bothered by your opinions, nor have I made any comments regarding them (as far as I can remember).

Basicly, I'd suggest just looking at his defensive stay at home game because that's what's going to make or break his career. And judging by his plus minus he looks like he's doing just fine.

Actually I read an article about Santini having a high bust factor since he had 0 goals in his draft year. The columnist did the math for the last 10 years and there was only 3-5** guys that have stuck in the NHL with under 0.5ppg in their draft year as d man. So you are onto something. Wish I could find the article.

Edit: I don't remember what he set the bar at for games played.

Speaking as someone who's been wrapped up in minor league hockey for 20 years -

This kid has AA minors written all over him, unless he catches a shooting star.

Kulak and Culkin are IMO very underrated D prospects. Good skating, smart, puck movers who both remind me somewhat of TJ Brodie.

Also Coda Gordon from that draft as well.
Hopefully, he's just getting around to it.

Burke liked Kulak, Kanzig, Poirier, Granlund and Ferland from a brief look-see after an early exhibition game ... check at 10:00-10:30 of interview,

Maybe already mentioned, I haven't waded through all 7 pages, but wasn't he one of the last training camp cuts, which would be incredibly rare for a 3rd rounder, with raw limited upside? Coaches and management must see something they really like, not just a big body.

I think there were a few quotes at the end of the summer with management praising Kanzig for how far he came just this summer. I'd say it's safe to say that he has at least one big fan (still) with the organization.

Any one with the work ethic and will power to get to, and maintain for training camp, 7% body fat. With enough ability and talent to even get on the radar at that size has got to be exciting to have as a project. Combine all that with a willingness to learn and some brains and look out. I, for one, cannot wait to see how it turns out.

I guess people that say he has 0% chance of making it forgot how he turned all the non believers into believers at training camp.

Who said he had 0% chance? I guess if your not sold on his potential suddenly you're sure he sucks?

I'm very high on most of our prospects, just not this one. In fact, most people aren't giving opinions, just staying facts about defensemen who don't get points...

Kanzig pumped to sign with Flames
http://www.calgaryherald.com/sports/...816/story.html

Deftly, he handled the technical side of the operation. Receiving the email. Printing it off. Approving it. Signing it. Scanning it. Sending it back.

Dad, meanwhile, supplied the smiles. Mom, the tears.

“Happy tears, of course,” Keegan Kanzig said of Thursday morning’s scene at the family home — with parents Mark and Sue — in Fort Saskatchewan. “They’re both very proud. I think it was a little surreal for them.”
Quote:
“They do have some confidence in me and they do see some potential,” Kanzig said of his employers. “That’s a great feeling. I’ll be doing my best not to let them down.”

I think signing him this early may mean he is not as far away as some people would think. Management has prioritized his contract over those of the 2012 draft that are not yet signed. That says a lot.

I watched Kanzig and his Royals play against Medicine Hat a few weeks back.
Aside from his size, he was not noticeable, which IMO is what you want from a SAH defenseman.
His skating looked better than the training camp games. He didn't make any bone head plays and actually seemed to have some decent hands.
His first passes out if the D zone were tape to tape, didn't try any long breakout passes, just tried to make the smart, safe pass.
All in all, if he keeps working in his skating and smart plays he will be a solid bottom pairing defenseman that won't be a liability and can throw down when needed.
Again this is just my opinion and that of a few arena brews.
