Obviously, the objective was the colours of the Olympic rings.

But I would find it very hard to believe that there wasn't a secondary objective there.

Considering the recent world-wide pressure/news, at the very least, there is no way this would 'accidentally' pass all the desks required to get approved, without anyone being aware of the secondary 'rainbow' message.

Simply no way.

They knew what they were doing. And good on them for it. They are hilarious, and as PuppetGuy said, FABULOUS!

Edit: I am not giving them a pass for their archaic law or anything, just saying the gloves are awesome

Saw a Johnny Weir interview on CBC there yesterday. He's married to a Russian guy.

Had some interesting things to say, basically that people shouldn't boycott Russian vodka/products, the Olympics, or Russia in general.

Germany to be wearing rainbow coloured uniforms:

The uniforms, which German Olympic skier Daniel Bohnacker described as “trendy,” consist of a blue, white, yellow and green jacket — paired with white pants for male athletes, and bright red and orange pants for female athletes.
