2 Games, two great performances from him.

He has been great.
But in a limited role and primarily on the PK (not a knock at all)
I have always liked Byron's game, I think he has tons of compete level and actually accomplishes some things with his speed.
I just don't know where he fits into the lineup.

In a 4th line roll on a team that can roll 4 lines and in a PK role.

Is David Jones a complete disappointment or is it just me? How did this guy ever score 27 goals?!

I thought he played very well last night. He was in Griess' face all night, and showed some nice hands in tight while in the crease but just wasn't able to score. He also threw his body around. IMO Jones has been as advertised.

I haven't minded him.
It would be nice if he created more offense for himself and linemates, but, he has a strong work ethic and appears to be playing effective minutes as part of a system. Rarely notice him taking shifts that are too long, not getting pucks deep etc.
I always find myself framing his play Vs. Tanguay. I take Jones' hard working but less effective offense over Tanguay's more effective offense, lazy hockey.

You should see his stats from last year. Not as big of a disappointment as Galiardi. Man has he been bad.

I'd like to see them swap Byron and Blair Jones and see how Byron does on the wing with Colborne and Sven. I thought there were a few times last night where a play died on Sven's stick because he looked to make a pass and Jones wasn't there.

How on earth we didn't get a draft pick by taking the Av's salary dump i don't know!
I guess pouty Tanguay was a negative asset to the extreme.

This is a serious question:
How does Joe Colborne get so many odd-man rushes?

As far as Jones goes I am a little disappointed but it is not like the Flames are oozing big forwards that can skate. We are so small his size alone is needed. He doesn't look out of place at least.
Enjoyed the game last night, thought the Flames had a lot of energy and really pressured the puck well and filled in the lanes. I wish we had this Stajan a few years back, playing with a lot of confidence and a little moxie as well, nice to see.
Ramo looked solid, think you have to ride him for a few games to see what you have there. Starts until he stinks it up or there is a back-to-back.
Galiardi and Glencross returning will make for some interesting roster decisions.

David Jones is overpaid by about $1.5 million a year, but he's been good in his role.
Flames desperately needed some size on the wing as they had too many soft skilled wingers.
He hasn't made many glaring mistakes and a lot of his teammates success have been the result of him driving the net, which he doesn't always get credit for (for example, Backlund credited Jones' net drive as the reason why he scored last nite).
I'd like to see him drive wide on the defencemen and cut to the net more often, like he was doing in the first few games of the season. He had that one game where he drove Mike Smith crazy cause he was constantly driving the net. Jones needs to do that EVERY shift.

I think his reach allows him to poke the puck by a defender at the point a lot. Other reason could be just hockey sense? Knows where to be maybe?

Seems to me this is part of the problem for Sven. When the play dies too often because of others, he starts to try and do it all himself like he could in junior and ends up turning the puck over and out of position.

He's like a freight train. He's so big, it doesn't seem he can move as fast as he actually does.
Also, our D is undersized, and couldn't keep the puck out of the net without Gio, but they are pretty good passers. With Colborne's wingspan he's able to pick those up.

#Flames Brian McGrattan leaves practice. Many suspect he has a knee problem...will try and research what's up later.
Pat Steinberg@Fan960Steinberg43s
#Flames D pairings switched up a little. Russell-Brodie; Smid-Giordano; Butler-O'Brien. Smith-Breen remains the extra pairing.
