Based on what? A 26 game stretch? He passed through waivers during the summer.
I think he has been solid, but I also think on a good team he is a 5-6 type player.
I dont have a problem giving him a two year, 4 million dollar deal (2.0 cap hit), anything more and I would look to trade him.

This lineup may lose a bunch but this will kick start the rebuild and we'll have another big draft in 2014.

Are you allowed to be under that cap floor mid season?

i would like to see what we could get for Giordano. Yes i know people will call me crazy for even suggesting this, but on a contender he is not a top dman and i question his leadership skills.

Cammy for a late first or B+ prospect
Stempniak for a 2nd
Butler for a 6th
Resign Russell and Stajan on 2 year deals for whatever they think market is... team will struggle to reach the floor next year.

Cammellari for Drouin
but it needs to happen now and not at the deadline for it to make sense for Tampa with Stamkos out.

Flames would have to retain half of Cammy's salary for the Lightning to do this.

Personally I think there are going to be a lot of disappointed people come deadline day. I really don't see the managment gutting the team to move out half of the people suggested so far in this thread.

Ideal:
Russell re-signed to a 2 year deal, $2.3 million AAV
Cammalleri re-signed to a 3 year deal, $5.5 million AAV.
Stajan & Stempniak traded for picks (1st or 2nd round) or potential top 6 RW/RD prospect(s)
O'Brien traded for a 6th rounder
Butler traded for a 4th rounder
Listen to offers on Glencross, Hudler, Wideman, Backlund, Galiardi & Smid.
Players to target:
Big top 6 right winger(current or potential) , 27 or younger
Big top 4 SAH defenceman (current or potential) , 30 or younger preferably RH shot
Target some players on bad contracts on teams close to the cap who would give up assets.
My EA Sports sponsored trade deadline
proposal of the day:
To Calgary: Ryan Murphy, Tuomo Ruutu & Jiri Tlusty
To Carolina: Dennis Wideman & Matt Stajan

Stajan keeps up his play, some team gets desperate and gives up a 1st for him.

I was starting to think I was the only one that wanted Cammy to stick around and be a leader for this team. Only thing I disagree with is the offers for Hudler and Smid. The team needs some veterans on the team, you just can't go all young prospects. Ask the Oilers how that is working out?! You need veterans.
You trade Stajan, Stempniak, O'Brien and Butler that opens up four spots for younger guys who might be close to making the team. That is enough IMO.

Yes. Depending on what you mean.
Cap exposure is calculated daily and you can't ever be over or under the prorated limits - in total. But you can for the day.
Looking at the Flames and some quick and dirty numbers, they have been running in the low $50s so far this year, let's call it $52m. The floor is $48m, which is $267k per day (roughly, I am using 180 days because I am not sure what the actual number is this year).
At $52m, the Flames have run at $289k per day for 36 days. or $22k above the floor.
Cumulatively, that puts them 22 x 36 = $792k above the floor, season to date.
They could therefore run under the floor for a while, until such time as they used up that banked amount. For instance, if they traded all the vets and ran at $200k per day (about $67k under the floor), they would use up their buffer in about 12 days.
Once they had no more buffer room, they couldn't continue to run under the floor because if their total (sum of the days of the season so far) number went below the floor number, they would no longer be cap compliant.
The same (opposite) is true with the ceiling.
NOTE: MY NUMBERS ARE MADE UP AND ARE NOT ACCURATE, SIMPLY AN EXAMPLE.
