Wayne Rooney ‏@WayneRooney 23h Just watched game back. I agree mine was bad tackle and ref dealt with it. And Martin Tyler didn't shut up about it all game.

I guess kicking a guy is now a 'tackle.'

Usually the opposing player requires the ball in order to classify it as a tackle.

So apparently there is no possibility of retroactive punishment for Rooney because the match officials saw the incident. Had he not been punished during the match, he'd likely be facing a three match ban for violent conduct. Lucky boy.

Just watching the West Brom/Villa match now, what a great pair of goals from Shane Long in the first ten minutes.

There are rumours circulating on Arsenal forums that Super (in his own mind) Nicklas Bendtner has been arrested for criminal damage.

Oh no. That will surely scare the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid off.

You are all wrong.

Joseph Barton ‏@Joey7Barton 24 Nov Rooney should never have been sent off. What are these so called experts on about. It was a yellow at most. Ref got it right. 1-0

Why so surprised? That's always been the case.

And why would a petulant kick be considered violent conduct when you consider that the FA doesn't consider Medel slapping Fellaini on the face (but no-one here seems to have seen that incident) violent conduct or Torres trying to rip the skin of Vertonghen's face violent conduct

I didnt see this incident. Was a GIF made of it? I only saw Rooney's because theres a gif.

Rooney has been banned by fataing FIFA for kicking a player. He kicks people. Its his 'biting.' Everyone has their thing.

is that how we extol suarez, by suggesting kicking opponents is exclusive to rooney?

Who the hell is talking about Suarez? Rooney was acting like a real. I don't understand why United fans are taking the Canucks' fans approach to this. We'll maybe I do...

Posted this in the MLS thread, but it's just as relevant here.

Toronto FC just signed Jermain Defoe to a 4 year deal.

No they're not. No one is condoning Rooney. He was very lucky.

My point is this. Last weekend was a pretty eventful weekend. Much more eventful than normal There was lots happening.

We had the Rooney kick which was bad. We had the Medel slap which was equally as bad.

We had Boruc creating one of the greatest goalkeeper gaffes in recent years.

And ... we had a by all accounts a great merseyside derby which featured Mirallas commit probably one of the worst tackles in recent memory where Suarez was lucky to escape with his leg intact.

But ...... no-one wants to talk about the latter three?

I had a busy weekend so unfortunately only had the displeasure of watching Tottenham basically do their best Edmonton Oilers impersonation. I only saw the Rooney gif, so I was unaware of the other incidents.

Decaf. Or perhaps the anxiety of this weekend? I tell you, we're not coming in taking names.

I didn't defend him.

Watching it again, I'm a split between red/yellow.

to me, it's a red. The Mirallas tackle was definitely worse IMO though.

It's hard to compare the Mirallas tackle to the Rooney kick. Mirallas deserved a red, no question. It was late and incredibly dangerous. Rooney's wasn't anywhere near as dangerous, but he wasn't even going for the ball. He lost his temper and lashed out. The foul itself looks like a yellow, but because there was no attempt on the ball then I think it should have been red. Just like the kick to Januzaj the other week should have been a red, too.

Edit: I think the Medel punch/slap is more comparable to Rooney's kick, and Medel should have seen red also. Red cards all around for me!
