Can this guy actually skate and play hockey? Or is he just a fighter?

If the answer is no and yes, I'd rather have the 6th round pick.

Halak, Streit, Rinne, Byfuglien, Moulson, pavelski.

Perhaps not superstar criteria, but I'd take them over an AHL enforcer.

You mean you would take the small chance they would turn into those players over an AHL enforcer.

He's not terrible. If you're expecting him to be a 2nd or 3rd liner, you'll be disappointed. He can be a solid 4th line presence moving forward. Plus he's only 24. Having several tougher players is a good thing as we proceed through the rebuild.

He's basically what Jackman was, but a bit better in all aspects, and can fight rather well.

Couldn't send him to the minors immediately. That was the reason why.

The benefit of acquiring MacDermid after he's cleared waivers is Flames can send him to minors.

Because they wanted an excuse to get rid of Jackman.

This is a good move. With jackman going and being replaced by someone from the Heat, we needed someone to be the "peace keeper" for the Heat. And from what I've read about him on IMDB, he's also a good actor and he's been in several movies.

I like it. It is a need for the Heat. Clearly he is skilled at fighting but if he could also hit like his dad it would be much better.

NHL waivers do not work like this. Waiver priority is determined by reverse league standings only. Teams do not go to the bottom of waiver priority by claiming a player off waivers

I am guessing he is Paul MacDermid son, he was playing for the Whalers back in 1989.

Maybe management wanted to be able to send him to the AHL or trade him. When you pick a player up off wavers, they have to go back on wavers to send him down and they cannot be traded for the duration of the season. If they clear waver and you trade for the player and they have played 10 or less games since clearing, they don't need to put the player on waivers again.
