Good, it frees up a spot for a younger guy in the line-up.

In theory yes. But the guy never really played that physical anymore, and lost pretty much every fight he got into.

Blair Jones: 6'2" 215 lbs
Tim Jackman: 6'2" 225 lbs
I suppose we give up some toughness, but Jones can actually be useful on the 4th line. Jackman was too slow to land most of the hits he attempted, and wasn't much in a fight (although he was always willing).

Jackman wasn't adding anything in the physical department. Total win.

I've thought for a while now that Blair Jones and Lance Bouma would make up 2/3 of a solid 4th line in the NHL.
Good size, some physicality, OK skating, shot blocking, in your face style (At least Jones looked that way under B Sutter)....plus their both fairly young, and cheap.
Jones was actually getting better at face offs too, before he had his falling out with Hartley. Hopefully they can put that incident behind them (whatever it was) and do what should be best for the organization.
Jackman seems like a good guy, but as many have said, really has no use on our rebuilding roster.
Getting a pick, and freeing up yet another contract spot are just pure gravy at this point.

You must have missed that post a while back when EE told us about how tough and feared he was in a road rage incident.

I can't believe that many people thought I was serious. There is no way someone should believe that trading Jackman for a draft pick would ever be considered a win now move.
It was a joke, but obviously if I have to explain it, it wasn't a good one.

Thanks for putting it all out there each night for us Tim. It's been a pleasure for the most part, even if it hasn't worked out this season. I remember the accolades from the guys on CBC at the Heritage Classic, "This guy here, Tim Jackman. This is the kind of guy you win with." Best of luck in Anaheim!
And happy for Blair, he deserves this. This was the right move.

Ya, basically half the league is at or near the cap. This gives us a ton of power if management is willing to take on a couple of bad contracts. We might even get a couple of good (but overpaid) players out of it.

Good trade. Bouma's play of late was making sure Jackman was going to be in the pressbox for a long time. I liked Jackman more than most but his time was up.
Interesting that they brought up Jones. I know he has been on fire for the heat but not really liked by Hartely. I presume he will be in the pressbox more often than not. The interesting part if if he does crack line-up, who's spot does he take? Maybe Bouma if he is having a bad couple of games? Maybe Backlund considering that Jones is a center?

Totally off topic but I was just thinking I hadn't seen you post in quite some time. Am I not very observant or were you gone for a spell?
On topic: Glad to see him moved, and for a pick no less. I don't care if its a 6th rounder. IIRC Gillies was a 6th round pick wasn't he? Brings on more picks and opens up room for guys on the Heat to move up. Great move.

What's even more funny is one of those teams is actually the Oilers...oh man. Much rather be in the Flames' shoes right now.

And rumor has it a lot of those teams that aren't at, or near, the cap have an internal cap and don't want to spend more. This bodes even better for Calgary.
