Reviews for Ryse are out and it's not good. The gameplay is as shallow as most had feared.
It's never a good thing when they hold the embargo up to (or near) the release date. Looks pretty though, probably pick it up used in few weeks probably.
Short, immensely repetitive, and only really playable in short bursts without boredom setting in - it's fair to say that Ryse: Son of Rome is far from the most thrilling offering available for Microsoft's new console. However, in terms of rendering technology, it can be argued that the CryEngine-powered title is one of the most visually impressive launch titles available. There are points - many of them - where this game is simply breathtaking, with an overall presentation that is very filmic in nature, making it stand apart from the pack.
Well, of all the games we've seen since then, Ryse is arguably the closest we get to a practical example of this theory - and it looks quite spectacular for much of its duration. Resolution doesn't drop all the way to 720p - Crytek chose 1600x900 - but the overall look is very cinematic, from film grain to motion blur to the immense levels of post-processing and pitch-perfect effects work. Ryse works at a sub-native resolution where others flounder partly because the anti-aliasing is quite sublime. The usual issues we have - stair-step jaggies, moire patterns on textures - are all extremely difficult to pick up on here.
Hmmm interesting, Microsoft took down their webpage for downloading the Day One update "offline". We're going to have to go through XBL regardless apparently.
Everything must be bought in Forza Motorsport 5, and all transactions take place in a slightly misshapen economy. A series will, on average, net the player in excess of 110,000 credits for just under an hour's effort - but with some of the premium racecars costing well over a million, it's a somewhat brutal grind. Good job, then, that there are tokens purchasable on the Xbox One's marketplace for you to attain the car you're after, or to temporarily boost the rate at which you gain XP. When you've already paid £429.99 for a new console, £44.99 for the game and maybe even £349.99 for the only steering wheel that the game supports at launch, such tricks appear a little unsavoury, and in Forza 5, mechanics greedily smuggled from free-to-play games trample over the elegant RPG elements the series once embraced so effectively.
Micro-transactions reservations aside, why are they giving you less tokens per pound/dollar the more you spend? "Recommended" and "Great Value" eh? Just a heads up if you're going to dive into the game that way.

Holy ####, I'm hoping someone ####ed up and MS isn't just assuming the average person is terrible at math.
Why do you think they went with Microsoft points initially?
Not to fool those who are bad at math. Well I guess it kind of does but it's mainly used to encourage people to spend money. If you have to pay for points instead of buy content outright chances are you're going to have left-over points. And if don't have quite enough points left over you're going to buy more in order to get something else. Lots of F2P games use points or some form of in game currency. The whole reason they do this is to try and turn users into whales.

Just the first of many disappointments in regards to your Xbox One, I'm sure.

Honestly try Walmart or Shoppers Drug Mart. The latter is especially under utilized around a system launch.
“We still have over 2.3 million customers on the First to Know List, which indicates continued demand for months to come,” GameStop President Tony Bartel said on the call.
GameStop Corp., the largest specialty retailer of video games, said its initial allocation of Sony Corp. PlayStation 4 consoles sold out and that 2.3 million customers are waiting for the devices.
Initial sales of the player exceeded its predecessor, the PlayStation 3, by more than 80% in the first few days, executives of the Grapevine, Texas-based chain said today on a conference call with analysts. They also anticipate a large waiting list for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox One, suggesting a prolonged industry sales slump is ending.

Reason: Financial Post as well
Did you guys pay for expediated shipping on your Xbone? With the PS4 from Future Shop I had the free shipping and my buddy paid for expediated (both of us in Calgary) and I got mine on the Friday, his came on the Monday.
I think it had to do with that mine was sent from Richmond on the Wednesday night, and his was not sent until the Thursday night I believe.

From reading the thread on RedFlagDeals is sounds like those that picked expedited shipping are receiving their orders later than those that picked the free shipping.
