This is semi relevant to your post but I saw this on Reddit a couple of weeks ago.
Last year's Hawks roster had 11 of their players acquired through the draft.

Haha. Well it was more of a best case scenario lineup.
It's really hard to predict which players currently outside the organization would find their way here. But you're right, it's very likely that there will be more externally acquired peices in the actual roster. And also assuming we're even lucky enough to pick both Ekblad and McDavid..

I would suggest you watch the Flames play then. They are that bad.

Buffalo, Florida, Edmonton and some others say hello. Like other posters have said: "We're bad but it crazy that four other teams are worse than us". And I do not see the Flames being worse next year. Just my projection but I'll be happy if they can get Ekblad. McDavid I am treating like a pipe dream. Because some team will in fact out suck the rest of the NHL and It wont be the Flames.

There are 4 teams that are worse then us simply because Calgary had a good start that lasted 8 games. Shooting percentages were high, the young guys had that extra jump and the puck was bouncing right for us. That has stopped now. Our goaltending is worst in the league. No question about that. Our defence is bottom 3 and I would argue that our offense is right around there as well. In the likely event that we trade Cammy and Stajan at the deadline, we become the worst offensive team in the league. Don't let a good start fool you folks. An 82 game season smooths that out. We will be bottom three this season.

i think you take out the stajans, stempniaks, cammalleri's, and inject some strong contributors from the Heat, and the flames will be in lottery contention durign 2014, which positions us well for mcdavid.
however, it doesn't sound like management will be sitting idle, and hope to use the salary cap to try to land some big fish. If they fail, however, think we're good to being in lottery discussion.

Who's being fooled? We all know they're a bad team. You talk as if you're the only one who can see some secret that no one else knows.

Is the rest of the 2015 draft looking promising? Or just one guy?

That is very interesting. I've never seen something like that before.
We can't only build threw the draft but also needs more than half the team from UFAs and trades.
I'm pretty happy to have Burke.

I honestly haven't heard any talk about the 2015 draft besides McDavid.

I can't see us being worse next year than we are now.
Bart and Monahan will be a year older and taking 2nd-1st line duty.
Our defence will be almost the same, with the outside chance of an Ekblad on the back end.
This was our year to suck.

Exactly, we will probably pick #3 this year. Just good enough to miss out on Ekblad and Sam R.

If it's rigged I wager he lands up in New Jersey; especially since they won't have a first rounder this year.

What that graph doesn't who is how much of the core is drafted vs UFA and trade. For example, Chicago's core:
Toews - Draft
Kane - Draft
Hossa - UFA
Sharpe - Trade
Keith - Draft
Seabrook - Draft
I think we'd see the same with the rest of the teams: 4/6 of the core players drafted, and mostly drafted high.
I see trades and UFAs as the way to supplement or make lateral adjustment to the roster. But the core comes through the draft.

I think Ekblad slides. Look what happened with Jones this year, and he's considered a better prospect than Ekblad. Teams are really starting to shy away from drafting d-men in the top 3.

Too small of a market. My guess is that he goes to Philly to reignite the Pennsylvania rivalry, and of the big American hockey markets they have the longest cup drought
