If he did what would it matter? Apparently it will rile up a bunch of fans and that's it. I don't see Monahan or Baertschi being offended in the slightest. Most of what coaches say to the media is unnecessary so I don't see why that means he shouldn't say it.
Clear overreaction by some fans. I don't understand why you guys are so offended by the quote, it is completely baffling to me. I don't think I will ever understand.
Frustrating thread. I'm done with it.

I don't think it will affect him in the slightest. Some people here are much more offended by the quote than Baertschi himself will be. Which highlights that it is an overreaction

Do I think it will effect him? No, I actually don't. Doesn't change the fact it was a needless comment.

I have no problem with Baertschi sitting, but if I'm paying money to go watch the games (which I do, and it's not cheap), I want to watch him and Monahan. Those 2 are the only guys motivating me to watch and actually cheer this year. The Flames need to realize their fans want to see these guys play. The fans run this team. If they make too many of us mad, they will suffer. That said, Pat is usually reliable, so I'm glad to see Sven in. Also, the "Gaudreau won't sign here because Baertschi's getting sat" posts were easily the funniest of the overreaction posts earlier!

Hartley is entering the Tyson zone of coaching decisions.
|
But he didn't do anything wrong in that instance(in fact, he didn't do anything) yet people jumped all over him. How is that right? Some fans are entering the hysterical zone of over-reactions.

This team should never make decisions only to satisfy the fan base.
Make the decisions that will make this team a better hockey team.

So starting Yogi Berra AGAIN will make us a better hockey team? I guess Ramo might get a chance when Berra loses 11 in a row...

Regardless of what Hartley said or didn't say he is not the right coach for this team. Anyhow I have to miss this one. Hopefully we make it interesting.

Agree with this in the short term but it's a bit simplistic....long term, their goal is to always make decisions to satisfy the fan base. Ultimately the satisfaction of the fan base is aligned with the goal of the team and ownership which is to win.
If the team is bad year after year after year, I think they are accountable to their STH and fan base for this (ie. oilers.....can you imagine being a STH).
Bottom line we need to give flames management more time (ie. 2 years) but I would suggest that the satisfaction of the fan base and having a 'better hockey team' are more closely aligned then you think.

What if Canadian cities have trouble winning the cup because the fans and media get so insane over every play, statement and decision that it creates an impossible working environment for the players, coaches and management?

IMO that tweet basically gives you some insight into what's going on in Bob's head. Kind of shows that this is a little personal just like whatever happened to Blair Jones was likely something personal. It's just the way some men in authority like to roll and is probably telling of why the guy was out of the NHL for some time.

I think there can be some merit to this. I don't think it has prevented Canadian teams from winning the cup but I think it is more difficult for the players because the fans and media are more invested.

Hartley has already been called out by Cervenka, Horak, and Jones as a guy who plays favorites and is not always a rational decision maker. Hard not to think after reading this quote the same applies to Sven. I find this more than a little concerning.
I don't mind a little abrasiveness in the locker room if the alternative is a guy like Jim 'yes man' Playfair, but Hartley seems to be having personal issues with a disproportionate number of young players of late. One has to wonder if he is the right guy for this team if he is calling out a 21 year old kid in the national media for not having a perfect game. It comes across as unprofessional at best, and at worst is indicative of an inability to work with developing players. I can't help but think this was at least part of the reason he was out of a job for so long before Feaster gave him a nepotism hire.

Sounds like false alarm re: Baertschi. Looks like he'll play tonight. Jackman and Smith look to sit out. #Flames
