wow ... what an over reaction.
We should write a "How to Survive a Rebuild" book and make it required reading!

Roger Millions on the fan 960 right now, sounds pissed insinuating Hartley's playing games with the media over roster line up.
"If you want to play games with the media when you have lost your last 7 of 8 that's up to you"

That just makes me like Hartley even more.
A trollful spin on what Darryl would usually do.

Again, I don't understand this comment. The coach is perceived (rightfully in my opinion) to be poorly handling the roster. Playing bad vets over youthful replacements, assigning an unfair level of accountability to the team (after speaking about meritocracy) and then saying unprofessional things about prospects. No one is mad because we're losing under Hartley, people are annoyed at his management of the team.
What does that have to do with not knowing how to survive a rebuild?

Wait lets put our tin foil hats on. The media is mad at Hartley and trying to make him look like he hates Sven by cherry picking quotes and insinuating they are related in some way to Sven not being a man.
Im just joking but this whole thing is stupid lol.

Andrew Ference had an account here back in the day.
Roger Millions has an account here as well. Last time I saw him post, he came here to defend Rob Kerr after we had a thread calling for him to be fired. Maybe something to think about every time you openly bash him and his credibility Cali Flames fan

And if you guys want to keep asking the same dumb questions over and over again, and totally take everything out of context just to strike up controversy, that's up to you too.
Hartley trolled the Media HARD and got them all riled up. Props to him.

While I agree Sven should be held to higher standards (he's a huge part of the future of this team)
I don't see how consistently tearing him down in the press is going to help ,I've seen little to no praise for his effort.
Year one of a "rebuild" we all expected a awful year as far as wins/losses but to not see a process of building players (skills/habits/intensity) is depressing.
Put Sven,Backs and Stempie together as a line and watch them fly

Bitter media writer is bitter.
Not sure what the hell is going on with Rog but he is now worse then Eric Francis in terms of making stuff up.
Has no real inside information, posts cryptic information on twitter that leads to conspiracies, and just seems bitter in general.
Think all he has done all year is post random incomplete thoughts on twitter that lead to others having to get to their own conclusion.
Boo hoo the coach didn't tell you exactly what the line-up was going to be, give me a break.

Not that I think it's true at all, but the media is a conduit to the fans. So if you think Hartley "trolled the media" ... who is he actually trolling.
What likely really happened is he said what he meant.

Not because of his coaching, or benching of Sven (which I don't agree with, regardless what happens tonight). I want him gone because he is acting like a completely unprofessional NHL head coach.
You have a problem with a player? Talk to him behind closed doors and air your grievances. You think it might be wise for him to sit a game? Fine, but do it without the not-so-veil shot at him about it being a game for men, not kids. You're the leader behind the bench, start being a leader.
The lineups, the coaching decisions, the benchings.....lots to discuss and agree or disagree on. But when your head coach is belittling players on the team by giving subtle potshots through the media it's the day I'm done with a coach like that.
|
Well if you want Hartley gone you might as boot out the GM who hired him too!

Flames' Monahan, Baertschi still works in progress
Quote:
CALGARY -- They're both hailed as cornerstones of the Calgary Flames' future, but the trajectories for first-round picks Sven Baertschi and Sean Monahan couldn't be more different.
Baertschi and Monahan are finding the NHL's rigors to be a grind, but each is navigating through his rookie season as best he can.
"I've learned a lot," said the 19-year-old Monahan, who has now played 20 games. "Coming to the rink with NHL players, you learn something new every day. You've just got to soak up any information you get. The little details in this League are the biggest thing, and that's something I'm really paying attention to.
"If I want to know something, I'll ask a question. There's a lot of good veterans in that room. It's easy to talk to those guys, and at the same time, I try to soak up any little information that guys are talking about or that I can pick up during games."
|
Quote:
"I didn't really have any expectations coming in," Monahan said. "I just wanted to work hard and earn a spot and do whatever I could to make the team better. It's a tough League, and it's fun to compete out there."
Like any young rookie, growing pains still exist with Monahan though. He has two points (one goal, one assist) over the past seven games.
"He's a baby; he's a baby," Calgary coach Bob Hartley said. "We're not going to make the perfect player out of him in one season. He's 19 years old. He's so much fun to work with. But at the same time, us as a coaching staff, we're aware that he's going to make an inexperienced mistake. It's normal."
|
Quote:
It's been hard, but Baertschi sees the upswing in things.
"You know what? It's fun, but it's hard," Baertschi said. "For me personally, I want to make sure I'm getting better every day. The level picks up. The first few games of the season, guys start getting used to the game, but then it picks up really fast."
|
Quote:
It's kind of crazy if I look back," Baertschi said. "It was two years ago when I got called up. Time went by really fast, and now I'm here and now I'm trying to stay up all year. I guess it's a lot of up and downs and time goes by really fast and time goes really slow. It's just part of growing up, I guess."
The paths of Calgary's rookies have certainly been different, but expectations remain the same from the coach. And just like with Monahan, Hartley knows Baertschi is going to experience bumps in the road.
"As long as the commitment is there, I have no problem with mistakes," Hartley said.

What does that have to do with not knowing how to survive a rebuild?
|
Because there will be 3-5 highly touted prospects that will be in focus in the next four years, of which 25% will go on to their lofty expectations and the rest will come up short.
As the Dustin Boyd caper of 7 years ago would suggest, the failing of any of these prospects will largely be blamed on the coaching and management with about 4% coming in pointing fingers at the player himself.
I hope Baertschi develops into a great player but if he was sat down because of his backcheck on Saturday it wouldn't have shocked me. That was hockey 101 and he botched it.
I'd imagine that would be pretty annoying for coaches that had taken him through film over and over.

Roger Millions@RogMillions1m
Oops #SN's PxP man Rob Kerr believes Bob Hartley has a change of heart. Perhaps Baertschi WILL play. I hope this is the case.
Roger Millions@RogMillions52s
Apologies for the original tweet...was told by folks close to the team Baertschi would be scratched. The whoe soap opera is puzzling.

That's fine. Bench him if he's bad, but bench others if they're bad too. Practice meritocracy if you preach it.
