Since the Jets played last night and the Flames should be hungry for a win I'll pick them tonight again.
Flames win 3-2.

There's no way to know that. The Dallas game was last Thursday, they've played another game since then and have held practices.

No reason to bench Sven this game. None.
I understand that young guys need to sit and watch, but Sven had a good game except really for that Eberle goal where he got caught chasing. Now is the time to go back and say "here is where you messed up" and let him get right back out.
Same principal as going back to a goalie after a crap game...however I am noticing more and more that Bob seems to pick and apply the rules differently amongst the team. Not the best strategy when developing young guys.

Yes it's getting to the point where it does seem personal now.
I do think Sven does have entitlement issues (as evidence by his not wanting to attend the prospect tourney and his answers to questions about his struggles at the tourney), but that's something that leaders and coaches have to work out with him.
What is more important to me is that he is competing on the ice, and you can't really say that he hasn't been. I was in favour of the tough love approach for Sven early in the season but honestly, I think he's been the most competitive forward for the Flames in the last few games. He still makes mistakes, some small, some glaring, but that's to be expected with a rookie.
I'm not in the camp of "Play the young kids at all costs - Oilers style", but I am starting to question the handling of Sven by Hartley.

It's so friggin' crappy that this is the coach we have during a rebuild. He has no idea that he shouldn't even be in the NHL. He actually thinks he's a legit NHL coach and is acting super clever.
I can't wait until his ass is out the door and Feaster gets the boot too for this nepotistic BS.

Monahan doesn't sit. Colborne doesn't sit. It's only Sven and to me it's getting pretty clear that it's personal.
To me, he's the third Flames player that simply "isn't liked" by Hartley ... Blair Jones and Roman Horak being the other ones.

So he goes from being "the best player on the ice" to sitting in the press box after one game?
Even if this is solely because Hartley feels Baertschi didn't play well (and that the 1st goal on Saturday was his fault), don't you see a problem with this? One mistake and your on the bench, even though you were creating opportunities and exhibiting a lot of effort?
The only way this makes sense is if Hartley has a personal grudge against Baertschi. He's amplifying his mistakes, playing down his positives, and is killing whatever confidence he has left.
Simply superb coaching.

respecting the specificity of each player and their individual development? yeah, that's the worst.

Why? Problem is that Hartley is blaming Baertschi for things real and imaginary now. He puts the guy down in the media, the organization actually does it more than once. There is a parallel since both players are on the smaller side.

Yeah, you don't even watch the games. It's apparent, because no one watching the kids this year would think this treatment is fair across the board.

Nothing. But sadly at the moment he probably would be traded for another prospect that they like better, if there was opportunity.
To me it seems Hartley is so fixed on seeing the negative stuff Baertchi does that he isn´t going to have any room for mistakes this season. Why isn´t he just sent down if Hartley doesn´t let him play? A 21 old kid should be playing hockey and having fun while developing to be a pro player.

that's what i'm saying. why would "across the board" universal treatment EVER be a good idea for player development?

Why would holding all the young players accountable instead of just one be a good idea?
Are you kidding?

If that is what is happening then that is a poor way to handle the situation. I don't think Baerstchi has been superb the last few games. He's working hard out there but he's been a turnover machine. Dallas was better and he was alright against Edmonton but his game against SJ was dreadful and probably should have been benched for that one if they are benching him for making mistakes. Because he wasn't and because he has improved a lot in the past two games this makes me wonder if something happened in practice or in the film room. A coach is at the top of the pyramid on a hockey team, Baerstchi is doing something (or not doing something) to make Hartley frustrated. We have no idea what that is. I personally think there has to be an underlaying issue beyond just his on-ice play.

The whole team stunk up the building in the third period on Saturday. They all deserve a benching after that. But I have noticed Sven getting better and better. He made some mistakes and so did everyone else up and down that bench. He also made some good plays. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't he in hard on the forecheck for the Wideman goal, which also earned him an assist?
I have the rosiest of rose tinted glasses on for Monahan, but he has played some games in the last few weeks that should have had him in the press box just based on how easily Sven seems to end up in there.
There must be something going on behind the scenes, attitude issues or otherwise, that we can't see as fans.
