This was in the Herald, from Cruickshank, and very likely what Roger was alluding to...
2. BAERTSCHI OUT? — As the Flames ran through their lines Sunday, LW Sven Baertschi, the morning after operating on the top unit, was passed over more than once. A couple of shifts on the fourth line, a couple of shifts on the bench. Should he sit, it marks the kid’s fourth scratch. Not that Hartley fears backlash. “Some of you guys think Sven is Rocket Richard,” he groused Sunday. Later, talking about Monday’s challenge, Hartley noted: “Big team. Loud building. Should be fun. It’s going to be a game for men. There won’t be any room for kids out there.”

Despite the flames crap team and crap results I am still excited to watch the young guys play. If Hartley continues to take that away, not sure what I am watching for.

This seems to have gone past the 'sit and learn' that so many seemed to think was okay for his development. It certainly sounds like Hartley really doesn't like the way Sven plays because it doesn't seem to take much for Sven to be in the dog house again.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Sven traded in a package this year (which I predicted when Burke came on board).

Guess we won't be seeing many from Abby this year unless injuries take out all of "men" (see vets) on this team. Makes sense why Jackman keeps playing.

I'm really starting to get sick of Harleys schtick. It was cute for the first couple of games but it is really getting frustrating now. I wouldn't be surprised if Hartley ruins Baertschi. I won't be watching tonight.

Unless Sven has some crazy whiny character issues we don't know about ("no place for kids"), Hartley is a f#%!ing idiot.

What will trading Baertschi solve? Sadly to me this is telling Johnny Gaudreau to stay far away from this organization.

I dont see him having character issues, he has been saying all the right things and seems to have good character. I couldn't agree more on Hartley.

Putting down the kid is not the way to improve his play.
Hartley has his favourite players and guys he likes to punish, nothing new here.

If he doesn't think Sven is 'Man enough' to play in the NHL then Johnny hockey hasn't got a hope in hell of playing regularly.

If I'm Johnny Hockey, I'm starting to look around for another team even if I wanted to be a Flame. Thanks Hartley.

Gaudreau would be better served spending a season in the AHL playing pro, at least until Hartley is gone.
Ward is a much better coach IMO. I wouldn't mind seeing him behind the Flames bench at all.

I'm only going to make one post on this, since it seems a lot of people on this forum seem to think I am overreacting.
After the Dallas game, Gelinas came out and said Baertschi was the best player. Picked up a point, and followed it up again on Saturday with another good game and another assist. He was physical (clearly taking a few shots at Yakupov), he was always the first forward back on the backcheck. You could clearly see the effort was there.
Now he's being sat, which is completely contradictory to what Gelinas said about his game (right away, we can already see that the coaches disagree about something). This is obviously not about Baertschi's play or his effort. Nobody was complaining about his game on Saturday. You can no longer argue that he's being sat because apparently he's not playing a two-way game, or he's not giving effort. This is completely personal.
Hartley is being completely irrational. A lot of people are bringing up a missed check against Hall against the Oilers as the reason. Why, again, is Sven being singled out? He was the only forward who was actually backchecking, and the only forward in the defensive zone when the goal was scored. He lost his check against Taylor Hall, a point per game plus player. A lot of players lose their check against a speedy forward like that.
And then Hartley comes out to the media last night and says "It’s going to be a game for men. There won’t be any room for kids out there". Wow. This is ridiculously childish stuff by our head coach, obviously directed at Sven. This is no longer about Baertschi's play, it's about Hartley simply not liking him. He's going to cost us a very good prospect. All the confidence Baertschi has exemplified these last couple games? Gone. One mistake, and you're on the bench kid (even though a dozen other players, including younger players like Monahan and Colbourne, make the same mistakes and get a pass).
It doesn't make sense to me that Burke would say that Monahan needs to play at least 16 minutes a night, but the same rule does not apply to Baertschi (who is more of a top 6 or bust player than Monahan).
So go ahead, tear my post apart. But there is simply no way you can defend Hartley's choices anymore. He probably won't be our coach after this season anyway, but apparently we're going to let him take one of our best young prospects down with him. Hartley is seeing only what he wants to see, and even our other coach disagrees with him.

Damn you Hartley. Because you refuse to tell us exactly what Bart does wrong even when it appears he has a good game, now Gaudreau won't sign with us in the future. Way to go.

The only reason I was so excited for this season is because I thought we'd see our young guys develop.. This makes it easier to skip watching a few games. Thanks Hartley..

You will see that.. a lot... over the next 3-5 years... and especially down the second-half of this season... when they start call ups... and people like cammalleri are shipped out...
