Writer removed. Not sure if that is a good sign.

Somebody didn't want to bring ewoks back and was fired for that.

This probably is going to be a musical featuring the song styling of Wicket. Betty White will run a hutt piano bar and the villain will be an overly campy Sith Lord played by Nathan Lane.

It can't get any worse than the prequels, so I'm fine with whatever happens to this project.

The prequels were easily worse than the holiday special.

The Holiday Special was cheesy schlocky crap, but at least it didn't retroactively destroy the mythology of a classic film trilogy.

Michael Arndt is no more. The Verge is reporting that the writer for the Empire Strikes Back, Lawrence Kasdan and JJ Abrams will be taking over the as co-writers for the script.

Not sure where you get that comparison. We only see the Blade runner city at night or dusk, never day like Coruscant.
Coruscant doesn't have a single smoking chimney or a single refinery flare.
Coruscant is a city planet and Blade Runners is just a city.
If you accept that in sci fi you're going to have flying vehicles and ships and futuristic looking buildings, I'm not sure how you avoid "ripping off" something that really is just using the imagined future (past technically with Star Wars). You could just as easily say; using that theory, that Blade Runner ripped off Bespin.

I think you need to go back and watch the Holiday special Nik.

To be honest, to me Revenge of the Sith ranks ahead of Return of the Jedi and is a par level of anh just based on pacing. Empire is the best of the bunch

If I was to rank them all

Empire
ANH - ROTS
Jedi
Phantom Menace
AOTC

With two of the three prequels, PM and AOTC, they had some outstanding scenes, but a lot of scenes that were purely bad

PM - The good, anything involving Ian McDarmid, the fight between Maul and Qui-gon. Three way fight between Qui-gon, Obi-wan and Maul, the senate speech. The bad Binks, Portman and Jake Lloyd, talking battledroid, slightly racist villians.

AOTC - The good, anything involving McDarmid and Chris Lee, MacGregor, the fight between Anakin, Kenobi, Dooku, some of the ground battlescenes were very cool. less Binks, and he destroys the universe, Anakin kills Tuskens. The bad, the romance scenes, Anakins girly throw in anger, the cheesy lines in the arena scene. The final scenes between McDarmind and Lee

ROTS - the good, the opening battle scene, Mcdarmid Palpatine, Anakins fall (could have been a bit better, but his scene in the Temple before his fall was exceptional), Kenobi vs Anakin with the exception of the high ground. Anakin slaghters the confederacy leadership, Order 66. Yoda fights Sideous and loses. the final scene of Vader striding across the bridge of a star destroyer. Obiwan hands look to Beru. Have you ever heard the story of Darth Plagious the wise? The bad. McDarmid becoming a monster of the week, but later redeems it with the scene with Yoda. The romance scenes between Padme and Anakin. Mace vs Palpatine in that McDarmid isn't a action actor and he looked awkward. Some of the dialogue during the fight (only the Sith deal in absolutes. Really, the Jedi are more about absolutes then the Sith), oh and NOOOOOOO

ANH - the good, almost everything because it was the first time we'd seen a movie like this. The bad, you think the acting in the prequels was wooden, watch this movie again, Harrison Ford was great, Hamil was bad, and Fisher was ok but wooden at times. The pacing, it was actually a very slow movie in a lot of spaces. Some of the dialogue was terrible.

Empire - Awesome movie.

ROTJ - Very good, but ruined by the Ewoks and especially the final battlescene. McDarmid was great but the Empire was more of a smack talking brother then a arch villian. Some of the acting was terrible.

The Holiday Special - All bad, Bea Arthur bad, the only good scene was the intro to Bobba Fett cartoon. Carrie Fisher was stoned out of her mind, Mark Hamill was wearing a ton of makeup due to his accident. They sang lyrics to Star Wars. Chewies grandfather watching porn. Terrible terrible terrible special.

I would agree with you, but you forgot the brief scene of the Works in AOTC which yes could be scene as a Blade Runner smoggy dirty city.

But Coruscant itself was a very bright city, even after the fall of the Republic.

Ah yes the Works, thanks for the correction. Although even with that I remember sunset flares on the horizon. I don't think you even see the horizon let alone the sun in Blade Runner.

Wait, this is supposed to be released in the summer of 2015 (19-22 months from now) and they don't even have a script yet? Don't big-budget special-effects laden blockbusters normally take at least two years to complete?

They probably have the loose plot of the story arch of all three and a little bit more drilled down into VII. I believe to that extent they've already even had casting calls. So I think the script plots are at least worked out.

Oh, I know it's horrible, but at least it's horrible in a bubble. The prequels, particularly Phantom Menace were horrible AND rendered a lot of the awesome things in Star Wars less awesome.

It's its anything like the last Abrams Trek outing it will just be a collection of action scenes loosely tied together by something you could loosely call "plot". And in the end Leia will blow up the Death Star instead of Luke.

Same kind of Star Wars name that Luke is?

They're probably (hopefully) placeholder names to keep the casting call vague.

Almost 100% definitely placeholder names to obscure what it's really for. Rachel's description kinda reminds me of Kira Carsen from The Old Rebublic.
