young guys get benched when they need a kick in the ass...quit comparing apples to oranges. These guys are at a development stage and sometimes need a kick in the ass. Do you really think the Oilers think Ryan Jones is a better player than Yak?

Oh another positive...Butler had a relatively solid game. The guy has been on a bit of a roll the last few games.

I never said he was the greatest player of all time...people happy that he is injured and think it will help the team are out to lunch youtube generation fanboys who think offense is the only way to help the team

You. Are. Overreacting.

No, I am not. I am reacting to someone that was twisting numbers to make the Flames look worse than they are, then being dismissive of what 2 losses would mean to the Flames. I never once said that Sven would have won those games if he was in the lineup, but I am not an idiot enough to say that throwing away 2 games of 15 is insignificant, like the poster I replied to seemed to be implying.
Sven is by no means a superstar this season... he is probably middling, but with a huge amount of potentional. That said, he has YET to be the worst player on this team ( Jackman certainly has! ), and has not deserved to be benched once, let alone twice.

That's a bit of a reach, but I'll grant that it's possible. Even if there were a couple guys that were upset by it, it doesn't explain the entire team collapsing like that. You know what does explain it? Our lack of talent.

Didn't get a chance to see the game, did Berra truly look fine or are we being a little to quick to give him the benefit of the doubt?
Like I said, no idea of the quality of goals or chances. Just curious. Thanks.

You basically said we wouldn't be under .500. That means you think we would have won those two games with Sven in the lineup. I didn't make anything up there.
If you were to ask me who showed more effort: Jackman tonight vs. Sven in Chicago, I would have said Jackman easily tonight. Talent potential aside, we can't have players coasting. If you want to compare Sven vs. Glencross, we can do that, but I hate comparing Sven to Jackman. It's just not an apt comparison.

Sven wasn't scratched for being the worst player on the team that is not how it works on this team or any team. He is a young guy who needs to be reminded of what it takes to reach his potential at this level.

If by offense you're referring to terrible turnovers that lead to scoring chances for the other team then yes Glencross is all about offense. What has he done defensively?
End of the day I'm not "happy" he's injured. I never wish injury upon anyone, but sitting there saying we will miss him, based on his play so far this season, isn't justified.

Even Lombo scored a few goals here and there. Galiardi has been worse. I still think he can provide more offense, and history tells us he can (roughly a .4 PPG player) so I'm not ready to give up on him. But he can definitely be better than he has been.

Galiardi is a 3rd/4th liner on a good team...I think some of you are forgetting how weak the roster is. You can't expect guys to be something they aren't just because the Flames don't have top end talent

For the record:
I agree that benching Baertchi seems pointless.
I think the reason behind it is that Hartley (or Burke perhaps?) thinks we're too small with him in the lineup, as it's the only one that makes even remote sense. And that's not really a lot of sense, because he's not playing small. His speed more than makes up for his size most of the time, and makes it difficult for the opposition to use their size. This is opposite to what happens when you put a guy like Bouma with Hudler and Monahan, no matter how good they looked this game.
Benching Baertchi is not going to turn us into a big team. I really don't get his benching either, and I would much rather watch this team with him in the lineup.
But I also really don't get why this is suddenly the magical reason for all our woes, and really the amount of whining about it on CP is completely overblown.

It's because besides Monahan. Sven is the only bright spot for the future of the flames.
......and look how the team is handling him

Is this how it feels to be an Oilers fan? lol
Re-build folks, relax, loooong season ahead with many more games like this. The talent isn't there, hard work will only last for so long. Just enjoy the good games.
Go Flamers!
