I think the Flames need to scratch Sven and play Ramo for the rest of the season. Flames need to tank anyway. So, no big loss here. It's hard to cheer for them this way, but what the hay!

At this point in the season and based on how he's played, how does it make us worse?

A few of the off season additions have gotten a free ride thus far, except Jones, because he was hurt.

Impossible with Florida, Buffalo and Edmonton in the NHL.

It's only a hollow message if you're a child. A grown up knows when to take things personally and when to suck it up and accept a decision. If I was Sven I'd be that much more motivated the next game, and if he isn't, well too freakin bad kid, suck it up and force them to bench a veteran in favor of you. I personally don't find Hartley's handling of anything so far inappropriate, just inconvenient for a fan base.
|
You seem to be missing the point... benching Sven isn't a hollow message to Sven, but to the rest of the team. It gives proof to the lie that this team is merit based.
The performance after the fact of him being benched seems to lend that some credence, no?

I would probably dress Baertschi, and give more icetime to Backlund and Bouma instead of Jackman and McGratton.

For the record, the crap punctuation above was purely a matter of emulation and done under great duress. For the record, give those 2 Sven games back, and suddenly its a team thats only lost 5 of 15 games... sounds pretty solid doesn't it?
|
I find it really funny that you think we would have automatically won those games with Sven in the lineup, despite the fact he hasn't really carried this team at any point, nor been dominate. Every team has stinkers. It just happened to be when Sven wasn't playing.
You. Are. Overreacting.

This team is much easier to cheer for compared to the last 3-4 years.
These games happen. If this becomes a regular thing, then I'll be upset.

It was a great start but let's be real. Let's get the old guys out the jackmans mcgrattans, butler , I brein let some kids come up from abbotsford. In this division there's no chance we're going to make the playoffs. I would rather finish dead last and get that' pick then finish 14th last.

This was a healthy reminder that indeed, we are a rebuilding team in year 1 with not much skill through the lineup. We'll get slaughtered many times this season against the better teams of the league. I'm starting to feel that the good start to the season was essentially a hot streak for this team.
That said, I still like watching these guys play, even though they clearly lost hope early tonight. But it was understandable, We had a good start to the game, but overall it was pretty clear that Wild was better than us in every way.
That said; the novelty of having a team that actually works hard will eventually wear out as the losses start piling up. That's just my guess of course. I think getting the most out of this season will need a conscious decision to stay positive, no matter what. Which for me means for example: no ridiculous whining about stuff like benching Baertchi. If you let small stuff like that get to you, you'll be filled with rage most of the season. Which is something a lot of people here seem to be doing already. If things keep going like that, we'll be witnessing a ton of fan meltdowns here on CP.
Berra was good despite the score. Maybe he could have been sharper in the last one, but that's about it.
I've been a huge Glencross defender through the years, but even I'm starting to lose patience with him. With his scoring slump over, there's zero excuse for his lazy effort tonight. The guy should have been benched a good while back, as he's clearly not getting the message. That kind of effort from a veteran will start to be contagious through the lineup, it needs to be stopped, now.
Bouma looked good with Hudler and Monahan.
Stajans softness really comes out in games like these when the other team matches our work ethic. Nothing wrong with his effort, it's just something that he doesn't have.
Jones is too eager to drive the net with the puck, he's not really that good at it. Couple of times he should have just shot the puck.
Galliardi with a lot of hussle, but a lot of the time it seems kind of pointless.
Backlund got quite a few shifts in Colbornes spot through the game. Didn't anything with them, but then again Colborne was even more of a non-factor. Neither is honestly bringing that much, other than good defensive game.
Butler is still looking not that bad. They seem to work nicely with Brodie.
About the Wild: they were actually quite entertaining. Honestly, they probably play a more entertaining brand of hockey than us right now, having that much more skill throught the lineup. Would much rather have them than the abomination of Phoenix in our division. They also look like they could be pretty good this year; great work ethic, solid defensive play, good goaltending and decent scoring depth.

Meh, we can't overachieve every game. Too many mistakes but there isn't much point in freaking out.

At the end of the day, that was just a loss... I dont care about losing a point in the slightest, but I am quite pissed about that launch for two reasons.
First, I pray Berra's confidence isn't shattered, he was extremely good.
Second, Bart... his confidence is already shattered, but that seems to be Burke's MO... pick a rookie and repeatedly beat on him until he hates you for... um... I havent exactly figured out why.
So frankly, my hate on this loss stems more from the potential damage done.

We've played under 20% of the season. I want no talk of tanking just cause of a stupid loss to the wild.

I know that. I was agreeing with you all along!!!!
Glencross is a huge part of this team, but you simply can't deny he was playing like crap to start the season.

No, we have and will continue to find out how bad we miss Gio! Know why? Because there's a guy who leaves it all on the ice each and every night, and would risk breaking a foot or ankle before letting a shot get through. Number 20 for the most part plays extremely uninspired hockey riddled with bone-headed plays and zero effort.

This is not true... I guarantee you there are guys in the dressing room, not named Sven who can't believe Sven is benched in place of other guys and really don't like it. This can translate onto the ice. Im not saying it is why we get blown out but attitude and effort can quickly shift going down 3-1
