Is there an organization in the NHL that's run more like a dictatorship government than the Oilers?

They let Rexall goons rough up their own fans for having a "Trade Lowe" sign.

You saw Lowe's presser getting mad at his own media for questioning him.

Now this.

The Sabres/Oilers games are going to be a real chess match of who can out suck the other for last place.

Time for Fester to troll the Oilers - Butler & McDonald for Yak and the Oilers 1st pick. Then trade Yak to the Sabres for there 1st round pick.

As much as Oiler fans think that Yak is going to be able to get him a top line defender, I think his value is probably a lot less then that. Except for his hot streak last year he wasn't all that impressive, this year he's a absolute disaster and looks like he doesn't give a crap.

He's going from prospect to project in a hurry, and as much as Oiler fans think he's worth something, most NHL GM's are pretty saavy. If the Oilers panic move him out of desparation he would probably fetch a second or a young 2nd pairing defenseman.

Same with Schultz, I can't see how teams are lining up for him, he's got the lowest defensive hockey IQ in the league right now.

Change of scenery needed or severely over rated.

I thought Torts said the Canucks had quit diving? Looks like they practice more sophisticated moves now. Wow.

The good thing is that in an hour clocks will roll back and Oiler fans have an extra hour to soak in the suck of this loss.

Just watching After Hours now..........one question to Ference was asking about the division on the team between the younger players and older players and he said 'it's not as bad as I heard it was'.

What the heck is going on with that team?

I've tried watching him a little more closely this season (when he's in the lineup), and he can skate fast, he can dangle a bit, and he can be exciting as it looks like something may happen when he has the puck. But then it doesn't. Again. And he's really bad defensively.

If I was a GM, I really wouldn't give up anything of significance for him. I'm not sold on him now, and I'm not sure his future is all that bright unless something seriously changes. You're basically trading for a former #1 pick with potential, you're not trading for a really good hockey player at the moment.

Any fan expecting a king's ransom for Yakupov just because he was a #1 pick should temper their expectations. If another GM is offering MacTavish a decent young d-man or goalie he should be all over it. Not just saying this because I'm a Flames fan, but the Oilers would have to sweeten the pot substantially for me to want to trade for him.

IMO, a very overrated hockey player.

One point I usually also bring up is that right now there's 2 Russian top 10 picks from the last 13 years in the NHL... Ovechkin and Malkin.

Every single one of the other 10 or so have gone back to Russia.

Oilers head coach Dallas Eakins hears the fans griping

Quote:
“I feel it. I understand it,” said the new head coach of the Edmonton Oilers when your correspondent asked what it’s like to be in this sort of jackpot to begin a NHL head coaching career.

“I have kids bugging my daughter at school. That’s not very much fun.

“I’m walking my daughter to school yesterday and I have one kid yelling at everybody ‘There’s the head coach of the Edmonton Oilers!’ And my five-year-old daughter gets real excited because, ‘That’s my daddy.’

“And then I have another kid yelling, ‘You suck!’”
Quote:
“So, yes, that’s happening. But it’s going to go the other way, too. I’m OK with the fire right now. I’m not OK with our record. But I’m OK with the passion of our fans in the fire.”

His daughter is OK with it, too.

“She’s only five. I checked into it after to see if she even remembered it and she didn’t. We’ll cross our fingers to hope it doesn’t turn into something bigger.”

Ignoring Yakupov and Nichushkin as the jury is still out, since the 2002 draft only Zherdev, Ovechkin, Malkin, Filatov, and Burmistov, I believe, are Russians taking in the top 10 though. Which is in part because of the Russian factor. So I think that's cherry picking the statistics a bit now, you could just as easily look at it the other way and say 40% of Russian top picks in the last 10 years ended up being the best players in the league.

And 2 of those players, Filatov and Zherdev, were drafted by Columbus who weren't exactly favoured when they chose to go with the Canadians Gilbert Brule with their 6th overall and Alexandre Picard with their 8th overall in between those 2 picks.

Then there's the 2000 draft, that had Torres go 5th overall, where no one picked between the 7th and 17th position are in the NHL today regardless of nationality. So I'm sure Tampa regrets picking the Russian Alexeev 8th overall, but he just simply busted like most of that draft. He came over prior to being drafted, got injured, and was eventually cut from the Hawks after being traded. The Russian factor didn't matter, it was just a terrible draft year.

There's definitely a Russian factor that needs to be accounted for, but if Kovalchuk leaving the NHL after 800+ games and 400+ goals and Burmistov ended up leaving after reaching bust territory are your major concerns, Turris should prevent you from drafting Canadians and Erixon prevent you from drafting Swedes as well.

That is a revealing comment from Ference. I think we all know who the "younger players" are. And these players have been given big contracts based on their names alone, no matter how much they float during games. Kevin Lowe and his various puppets have bred them into losers who have settled in to life in a country club with little or no accountability.

It really does seem like the only way out of this for Edmonton is to go nuclear. Blow the entire organization up - fire Lowe, MacTavish, and any of the other boys on the bus. Trade the "younger guys" for talent that is as close a match to what they've got as possible, but not yet accustomed to the country club atmosphere, and start over.

Hahaha then try lacing up your skates. I guess it couldn't hurt with that pathetic team you have assembled.

I was surprised he mentioned that

also the key part of that quote was "as bad"

sounds like they still have issues, and usually when it gets to that it's either a trade or the GM saying a trade will come if things don't improve soon

MacT basically used option 2 in the summer all ready so I wonder how long they can wait, can't be much longer before the season is a waste with how strong the pacific looks
